Unaccompanied Refugee Minor (URM) Casework Supervisor

The Unaccompanied Refugee Minor (URM) Casework Supervisor is responsible for the training and casework for the URM Caseworker program and the oversight for The Department of Human Services (DHS) requirements, policies and procedures.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Promotes a positive and supportive work environment and provide continuing support in helping caseworkers accomplish their goals while developing work methods, processes, policies and procedures.
  • Stays abreast of all DHS casework processes and serves as primary trainer and resource for DHS casework services and processes.
  • Provides oversight for casework services to include court reports, staffing, interactions with DHS consultants, treatment planning, setting up services for families and decisions on permanency planning.
  • Attends Team Decision Making (TDM) meetings and other DHS meetings as needed.
  • Maintains written documentation as needed and prepares necessary reports on a timely basis.
  • Serves as the primary contact with DHS regarding cases and/or caseworker issues.
  • Compiles statistics for DHS.
  • Provides input into annual appraisals and counseling of employees on performance.
  • Participates and leads when appropriate the Lutheran Family Services Rocky Mountains (LFSRM) team meetings regarding assigned or prospective cases.
  • Attends DHS Leadership and Quality Assurance meetings as appropriate.
  • Assists Program Director with recruitment and program building strategies.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

PROFESSIONAL & ETHICAL STANDARDS OF PRACTICE

  • Participates in setting annual goals, objectives, and ongoing program development and evaluation for the URM program.
  • Actively participates in supervision meetings with the Program Director.
  • Attends leadership team meetings with program supervisors from the South office and leadership council meetings.
  • Maintains confidentiality at all times.
  • Reports any suspected incidents of abuse and/or neglect immediately to the appropriate Department of Social Services.
  • Completes staff development/professional training requirements as specified in LFSRM handbook and as related to this position.
  • Maintains current professional licenses and/or certification required by this position.
  • Accurately represents the agency when attending community fundraisers, exhibits, meetings, etc.

  • Supervisory and organizational ability
  • Child welfare and casework knowledge and experience
  • Written communication skills, ability to edit and the ability to make presentations
  • Broad knowledge of social work practice, human development, clinical theory and diagnostic skills
  • Knowledge of the legal system as it applies to child welfare
  • Skills in problem solving, negotiation, decision-making and mediating conflict
  • Ability to relate well to children and families of varied cultural, social, economic and life-style backgrounds
  • Ability to self-start and work well in a team setting
  • Skill in provision of direct clinical services to children and families
  • Computer skills; preferred experience with Trails system
  • Must have and maintain a valid driver's license and provide proof of auto liability insurance at the level of 100,000/300,000/100,000

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE

Bachelor's degree (B. A.) in Social Work or behavioral science field and four or more year's related experience and/or training required.

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES

Responsible for the direct supervision of all staff in URM Foster Care Program.

CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS

Completion of CDHS (Colorado Department of Human Services) Casework Training. Preferred completion of CDHS Casework Supervisor training or ability to complete upon hire.
