Full-Time Direct Support Professional

QUALIFICATIONS:
- High School diploma or equivalent is preferred.
- Some post-secondary education or training in addition to at least one year direct service experience working with persons with disabilities preferred.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
- Ability to work with families, agency professionals, volunteers, and direct service providers.
- Ability to document the service provided according to Medicaid guidelines.
- Valid Iowa driver’s license and vehicle insurance.
- Flexibility in scheduling and willingness to cover with minimal notice.
SCOPE OF THE POSITION: This full-time, non-exempt position is responsible for implementing the Individual Service Plan and for the provision of quality services through the following areas:
- Must ensure the well-being of the client at all times during services by providing direct supervision and care.
- Provide needed services as assigned.
- Attend trainings as requested. Complete all needed certifications.
- Maintain client privacy and protect the agency by keeping information confidential.
- Maintain client health status by safely and thoroughly carrying out health procedures such as tube feedings, toileting, seizure, first aid, medication dispensation, etc.
- Respond calmly to health and emergency situations and report to the family and supervisor.
- Ensure client & family satisfaction by engaging the client in activities of interest, providing positive reinforcement, role modeling age appropriate & positive behavior, exercising sound decision making skills, and creating a positive living and training environment.
- Advocate for the rights of all clients by reporting any incident or signs of abuse and/or neglect per procedure.
- Provide updated information to staff in regard to client needs, issues, or changes.
- Ensure that agency service documentation requirements are met through timely submission of timesheets and documentation.
- Provide only authorized services.
- Keep supervisor updated on all schedule changes.
- Remain flexible to ongoing schedule changes during work week as needed to meet the needs of the Arc and of those we serve.
- Flexibility to work paid holidays as needed to meet client needs.
- Provide services according to written goals for Supported Community Living (SCL), Job Coaching, and Day Habilitation.
- All duties as assigned.
