Position Summary:

Whitehall District Schools is seeking a motivated educator to support Multilingual Learners through direct instruction, small group support, and collaboration with general education staff. This position ensures compliance with Title III requirements, administers WIDA assessments, monitors student progress, maintains program documentation, and helps evaluate and improve the district’s Language Assistance Program.

Essential Duties

  • Must follow district and state curricula and assessment requirements.
  • Work with EL Coordinator to make sure the district is in compliance with Title III requirements.
  • Proctor and administer the WIDA Screener and other annual WIDA assessments to MLs
  • Complete the required reporting and monitoring of Title III in collaboration with State and Federal Programs Director and clerical staff.
  • Provide direct instruction to MLs according to best instructional language acquisition practices, merging content and language standards
  • Provide small group instructional support to MLs at the Entering and Emerging levels
  • Collaborate with general education teachers to support MLs in other classroom settings
  • Evaluate and monitor the growth and progress of current MLs and FELs after they have exited the program through analyzing student data 
  • Ensure appropriate accommodations are implemented for MLs on other state standardized assessments
  • Contact and communicate with ML parents and guardians to build a positive relationship with families and to provide support or resources outside of the classroom
  • Update and maintain the WDS ML Handbook, including updating all written WDS protocol documents
  • Maintain student records, organize resources, and foster a learning environment which is consistent with district and school expectations
  • Evaluate the effectiveness of the LAP, or Language Assistance Program, and suggest appropriate changes as needed dependent on district ML population and certified staff members
  • Perform other tasks as assigned.

Education and Experience

  • Valid Michigan Teaching Certificate
  • K-12 English as a Second Language (NS) endorsement

Compensation

  • Per Teacher Contract (.75 FTE) 
  • School Year Schedule
