JC- 485251 - Associate Health Program Adviser

This position supports the California Department of Public Health’s (CDPH) mission and strategic plan by working toward achieving a tobacco-free California and to reduce tobacco-related illness and premature deaths by implementing programs to reduce tobacco use and exposure to secondhand smoke. The incumbent works under the direction of the Health Program Manager I (HPM I) of the Local Programs and Advocacy Campaigns Unit. The Associate Health Program Adviser (AHPA) performs the more difficult and complex duties involved in the development and implementation of local and statewide comprehensive tobacco control plans. 

The AHPA facilitates the development and implementation of established strategies for population-based public health interventions and training. Provides technical assistance aimed at countering the tobacco industry, decreasing exposure to second and thirdhand smoke, reducing the availability of tobacco products and promoting tobacco cessation. Coordinates the planning, development, review and approval, and delivery of multi-dimensional interventions, trainings, educational materials, fact sheets, and other documents used by California Tobacco Prevention Program’s (CTPP) funded agencies. Stays up to date of the current research, scientific literature and trends related to tobacco products, including electronic smoking devices. Coordinates training, technical assistance, and educational material development between CTPP Sections and Units.
