ABOUT COGNIUM
Cognium is building an AI-native platform to automate and scale institutional investment tasks and workflows to build the next generation of asset owners (eg. pension funds, insurance companies, private wealth managers). From parsing unstructured fund or transaction data to generating and reviewing due diligence questions, creating internal decision memos and automated portfolio monitoring, our product shall bring the ‘Minority report’ feel to the dusty world of traditional finance. We move fast, build smart, and deploy systems that create tangible value from Day 1.
ROLE OVERVIEW
We are hiring an AI Engineer - Intern with a passion for solving real-world problems using Large Language Models, generative AI, and deep learning architectures. In this role, you’ll work on embedding advanced AI into our platform, helping power everything from intelligent document parsing to contextual reasoning and smart summarization.
You’ll collaborate closely with full-stack developers, product designers, and cloud engineers to bring models from prototype to production in an agile, research-meets-engineering environment. If you’ve built and deployed LLMs or ML applications—even as side projects—we want to hear from you.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
🔹 LLM & Generative AI Deployment
- Build, fine-tune, and evaluate large language models (LLMs) and generative models (e.g., diffusion, transformers) for NLP-heavy tasks
- Deploy models in production using AWS Bedrock, SageMaker, Hugging Face, or custom containerized workflows
- Develop prompt engineering strategies, embedding pipelines, and retrieval-augmented generation (RAG) integration with the LLM and general stack with Cognium’s IP
- Measure performance, run A/B tests, and iterate quickly to improve accuracy, relevance, and reliability
🔹 Machine Learning & Model Engineering
- Design and train deep learning models using PyTorch, TensorFlow, or JAX
- Implement custom tokenizers, classifiers, and inference chains where off-the-shelf models fall short
- Conduct benchmarking, fine-tuning, and experiment tracking using tools like MLflow or Weights & Biases
- Explore and prototype new use cases around summarization, classification, document intelligence, and more
🔹 AI Infrastructure & MLOps
- Work with DevOps and platform engineers to containerize and deploy models using Docker, Kubernetes, or OpenShift
- Build and maintain scalable ML pipelines using cloud-native workflows and event-driven architecture (e.g., AWS Lambda + Step Functions)
- Integrate models seamlessly into full-stack features used by end users across financial verticals
🔹 Collaboration & Productization
- Translate business problems into solvable ML tasks in collaboration with product managers and domain experts
- Collaborate with frontend and backend teams to connect model outputs with end-user workflows
- Communicate complex AI topics clearly to non-technical stakeholders, contributing to roadmap decisions and user feedback loops
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS
- Pursuing a degree in Computer Science, Technical Science, or a related technical field
- Hands-on coding proficiency in Java and at least one of: Python, JavaScript, or TypeScript
- Experience with testing methodologies: unit, integration, system, and regression testing
- Strong problem-solving mindset with an eagerness to learn and innovate
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills in English
- Real-world AI/ML projects, even as side-projects, that demonstrate end-to-end delivery or experimentation
NICE TO HAVE
- Familiarity with container technologies like Docker, Kubernetes, and OpenShift
- Experience in UNIX/Linux-based environments
- Exposure to RAG, embedding databases (e.g., Pinecone, FAISS), or vector search frameworks
- Contributions to open-source AI/ML projects or active involvement in research communities
- Passion for staying up to date with emerging development trends.
