Director of Student Ministries

Director of Student Ministries, Emmaus Church--Northfield, MN

Overview 

Emmaus Church in Northfield, MN is seeking to call a relational and collaborative Director of Student Ministries to join us on our journey to grow as Christ’s ambassadors in our community. This position is part-time at 25 hrs/wk. The initial appointment for this position will be for the 2025-26 academic year with the potential to continue as a permanent ministry position pending initial review and mutual agreement between the candidate and the Emmaus Youth Ministry Board and Church Council.

We aim to embody Christ’s mercy and work for God’s justice for our neighbors. The in-coming Director of Student Ministries will enter a healthy and active youth program with strong volunteer involvement. They will enter a collaborative leadership culture and be called on to implement our values and vision within our youth and family ministries.

6-12 Grade Program Engagement: 55 student/week

About: Emmaus’ Sunday worship service (10am) is authentic and engaging. Staff and volunteers bring a musical style that is modern and eclectic, and preaching that is relevant and engaging. Emmaus offers Wednesday night and Sunday morning programming for grades 6-12 during the academic school year. Emmaus offers an annual youth weekend fall retreat, a spring weekend rally, and a summer service trip. Other youth events are scheduled as needed. 

 

Church Staff

Emmaus Church employs two full-time ministry staff members, three part-time ministry staff members (which includes the Director of Student Ministries) and four part-time support staff members. The incoming Director of Student Ministries will join a supportive and collaborative staff culture, and become a key participant of weekly ministry staff meetings. 

 

The Candidate 

The ideal candidate for this position will have an authentic, growing faith in Jesus Christ and be committed to the transformative power of the gospel in the lives of young people and their families. This person will have a heart for God’s grace and justice. Emmaus is seeking someone who can collaborate well on teams and lead as a servant. We seek someone with skills to recruit and equip others for ministry, especially equipping parents as disciplers of their children. As a community-focussed and inter-generational church, Emmaus seeks someone who can integrate our values and vision within our youth program and culture, and can cultivate youth involvement into the full life of our church.


The Location 

Northfield, MN is a thriving town of 20,000 residents located 45 minutes south of the twin cities on the Cannon River. Northfield features two private colleges, Carleton and St. Olaf, as well as numerous parks and trails. Northfield boasts a vibrant and historic downtown, excellent schools, and residents enjoy its engaging, small town feel. 

 

What You’ll Do

  • Provide visionary leadership for the youth ministry.
  • Oversee key elements of the Emmaus youth ministry including biblically-based teaching content, calendar, budget, recruitment and training.
  • Work with adult and youth volunteers to craft teaching content for Wednesday evening youth group and Sunday morning Sunday School. 
  • Facilitate youth programming and youth events, including logistical planning and coordinating volunteers.
  • Foster mentoring relationships with students and families.
  • Collaborate with church Staff and Council to carry out our values and vision.
  • Explore other ministry areas you may be interested in.

 

Qualifications 

  • Alignment with Emmaus’ Statement of Faith, Philosophy of Ministry and Statement of Congregational Identity, which are included in the Emmaus Constitution.
  • Bachelor’s degree preferred.
  • Two years of previous youth ministry experience preferred.
  • Valid driver’s license and safe driving record.  

 

Salary & Time Off

The Director of Student Ministries is a 25- hour/week, non-exempt position with a starting salary range of $30k-$34k annually. This position qualifies for a SIMPLE matching plan and may also qualify for a ministry housing allowance with the IRS. Hours are flexible and can be split between office and home, with two weeks paid off plus holidays.
