- Undergraduate: $15/hour
- Graduate: $20/hour
Pay is commensurate with education and experience.
Position Summary:
The South Carolina Department of Public Health’s Newborn Screening Program is seeking a highly motivated and detail-oriented intern to support key operational and analytical tasks. This paid internship offers a unique opportunity to gain hands-on experience in public health programming, data analysis, and documentation development while contributing to efforts that directly impact the health of South Carolina’s newborns.
Key Responsibilities:
- Assist in the development and formal documentation of Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) for the Newborn Screening Follow-Up Program
- Conduct detailed data analysis related to newborn screening follow-up activities using advanced Microsoft Excel functions
- Build and manage complex Excel spreadsheets, including creating dashboards, pivot tables, and graphs
- Analyze, interpret, and visualize data to inform program decisions and improve reporting
- Collaborate with program staff to understand workflow and documentation needs
Minimum Qualifications:
- Enrolled in or recently graduated from an undergraduate program in Public Health, Biological Sciences, Health Informatics, or a related field
- Strong proficiency in Microsoft Word and Microsoft Excel, including advanced functions (e.g., formulas, pivot tables, charting, and data manipulation)
- Excellent written communication and technical writing skills
- Ability to work independently and manage multiple tasks with attention to detail
- Graduate students are strongly preferred due to the technical demands of the role
Preferred Qualifications:
- Currently enrolled in a graduate program in Public Health, Biological Sciences, Health Informatics, or a related field
