Project Engineer Intern

Position Summary:

Empowered Building’s engineering team is actively recruiting a Project Engineer Intern to assist with ongoing project development and deliverables related to Local Law energy compliance and ASHRAE Level 1, 2, and 3 energy audit assessments.

This role requires strong proficiency with Microsoft Excel  / Google Sheets

Core Duties / Responsibilities:

  • Learn and assist in project development  process working on technical assignments within team:
    • Technical Report Development - Develop written findings and recommendations related to building equipment and collected data.
    • Utility Analysis - Organize, review, and report findings of utility data from customer building portfolios.
    • Calculations - Establish energy use baselines, identify energy saving opportunities, and calculate energy effects of recommendations.
    • Development of project deliverables as needed.
  • Project Manage the implementation of energy conservation measures.
  • Learn and manage building benchmarking energy compliance.
  • Assist with process of utility rebate incentives during installation of engineered building upgrades.
  • Assist with onsite audit data collection used to determine energy efficiency opportunities.
  • Perform other related assignments as needed.

Required Skills / Abilities:

  • Proficient with Google Applications.
    • Strong proficiency in Google Sheets and Docs.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills.
    • Ability to interact well with customers and team.
  • Ability to organize and self‐manage assignments and deadlines.

Preferred Skills / Abilities:

Basic understanding of or a learning interest in the following:

  • Engineering Principles – Heat Transfer, Fluid Mechanics, Thermodynamics
  • Methods used for technical engineering and utility cost savings analysis.
  • Ability to conduct in‐field energy assessments (ASHRAE Level 1, 2, & 3).
  • Basic understanding of energy conservation principles and techniques.

Education and Experience: 

  • Pursuing Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering or related technical field.
  • Experience with mechanical related systems and demonstrated interest in energy conservation.
  • On‐the-job training provided for comprehensive understanding of energy audit and analysis.

Location:

  • Position reports to Empowered Building’s Manhattan office in Midtown East.
  • Expected travel and time site visit total approximately 20% of work schedule.
