Interior Design Intern

Interior Design Intern (Part-Time, 5–10 hrs/week) – Essential Foundation Inc.

 

Location: Hybrid – Remote with occasional site visits in Red Oak/Waxahachie area

Duration: 6-month internship (with potential to extend)

Hours: 5–10 hours per week

Compensation: Unpaid, academic credit or volunteer hours available

About Us:

Essential Foundation Inc. is a dynamic nonprofit dedicated to uplifting foster youth, underserved families, and community members through essential support services—including food, housing, mentoring, and empowerment programs. We are expanding our community spaces and centers to be welcoming, functional, and inspiring—and we need a creative eye to help us design these environments.

Position Overview:

We’re looking for an enthusiastic Interior Design Intern who wants real-world experience designing commercial and home-like spaces that inspire comfort, dignity, and empowerment. You’ll support the planning and redesign of our community spaces, office layouts, and donation displays. This is an exciting opportunity to help transform environments that make a real difference in people’s lives.

Key Responsibilities:

Assist in developing floor plans, furniture layouts, and mood boards for office and community spaces

Research cost-effective materials, furnishings, and decor

Support site walkthroughs and take basic measurements- develop basic plans 

Select color palettes, textures, and materials to enhance visual appeal

Help create design presentations for potential stakeholders to review

Collaborate with staff to ensure designs align with organizational values and audience needs

 

Preferred Qualifications:

Currently pursuing or recently completed a degree or certificate in Interior Design, Architecture, Visual Merchandising, or a related field

Passion for nonprofit work and design that serves a social purpose

Some experience with home décor, commercial interiors, or staging (coursework acceptable)

Basic understanding of layout, spatial planning, and design principles

Basic Skill Set:

Strong aesthetic sense and attention to detail

Familiarity with design tools like Canva, SketchUp, AutoCAD

Ability to create digital concept boards

Excellent communication and collaboration skills

Organized and able to manage time independently

Willingness to visit local project sites occasionally (optional but a plus)
