Budget Analyst Trainee

If you answered yes to the above, this may be the position for you. The Budget Analyst Trainee works as part of the Budget & Financial Planning team and offers the opportunity for on-the-job budget training in a local government environment. This position is structured to provide the necessary skills for the successful candidate to be able meet the qualifications of a Budget Analyst within two years. The successful candidate will work closely with the Budget Manager, Budget & Finance Director, and other team members to coordinate the budget process and assist with a range of financial and budgetary tasks to complete an adopted budget each year.
What you will get to do:
The Budget Analyst Trainee performs a variety of budgetary tasks and analyses that may include:
- Coordination: Creates and maintains the annual budget calendar including required activities and deadlines for all Budget & Financial Planning staff and coordinates the budget process resulting in a complete budget. Assists the Budget Manager in ensuring all legal publications, filings, and notices are complete and in compliance with appropriate laws and regulations. Attends Budget Committee meetings. Facilitates the creation of the Adopted budget document, Budget-in-Brief and other print and web-based publications.
- Budget Development: Creates or verifies budget data based on budget assumptions, procedures, and other relevant materials. Maintains appropriate budget and accounting systems to provide the budget system set-up and input of data needed to support budget decision-making.
- Advisor: Responds to and resolves confidential and sensitive inquiries; provides technical assistance and support to staff regarding the budget process and procedures; provides general financial information to outside agencies.
- Research & Analysis: Interprets and applies federal, state, and local laws, regulations, policies, and procedures to ensure legal publications, filings, and notices are compliant; conducts analysis on best practices and trends.

Work schedule/environment:
The current schedule for this position requires minimum 3 days working on-site office and 2 days remote.
Minimum Qualifications:
- Associate’s degree in finance, accounting or a related field
- 1 year of executive level administrative support, accounting, budgeting, or finance support experience.
Additional education or experience may be substituted for a combined 3 years of qualifying education, training, and/or experience.
