Construction Project Engineer
Position title: Construction Project Engineer
Reports to: Production Manager
We are looking for Construction Project Engineers to plan and supervise a wide range of construction projects from start to finish. You will organize and oversee construction procedures and ensure they are completed in a timely and efficient manner.
An excellent Construction Project Manager must be well-versed in all construction methodologies and procedures and able to coordinate a team of professionals of different disciplines to achieve the best results. The ideal candidate will have an analytical mind and great organizational skills.
The goal will be to ensure all projects are delivered on time according to requirements and without exceeding budget.
Responsibilities
Construction Project Manager responsibilities include:
Sales, Design, and Estimating
· Prepare detailed estimates and proposals. Participates or leads sales calls.
· Collaborate with hardscape designers, engineers, architects etc. to determine the specifications of the project
· Evaluates and updates the Material Catalogue
Procurement of Materials and Subcontracts
· Negotiate contracts with external vendors to reach profitable agreements
· Acquire equipment and material and monitor stocks to timely handle inadequacies
· Hire contractors and other staff and allocate responsibilities
· Obtain permits and licenses from appropriate authorities
· Submit material orders within 3 business days of a proposal acceptance
Project Layout and Execution
· Determine needed resources (manpower, equipment and materials) from start to finish with attention to budgetary limitations
· Plan all construction operations and schedule intermediate phases to ensure deadlines will be met
· Supervise the work of laborers, mechanics etc. and give them guidance when needed
· Ensure that the layout and elevations of the project are as designed/sold.
· Evaluate progress and prepare detailed reports
· Ensure adherence to all health and safety standards and report issues
· Be ready and eager to assist the field team with execution questions and strategy
· Submits daily PM Checklist to Production manager
· Submits daily staff timesheets
· Complete a Job Closeout Checklist within 3 business days of completion, final invoices are sent, and Google reviews are obtained.
· Complete Project Post Mortem Reviews
Client Management
· Participate in a pre-construction meeting with the foreman and client.
· Ensures that customers receive CleanStone’s 5-Star Experience.
Change Order Management & Invoicing
· Prepare changes orders and present them to the customer for approval
· Ensure change orders are completed and invoiced
· Invoice customer according to the agreed upon payment schedule (e.g. 25% /25% /50%)
· Follow up on unpaid invoices
Requirements and skills
· Must be able to lift 70lbs and be comfortable with physical labor in sometimes uncomfortable situations and weather
· Proven experience as construction project engineer
· In-depth understanding of construction procedures and material and project management principles
· Familiarity with quality and health and safety standards
· Good knowledge of MS Office
· Familiarity with construction/ project management software
· Outstanding communication and negotiation skills
· Excellent organizational and time-management skills
· A team player with leadership abilities
· ASc/BSc/BA in engineering, construction management, building science or relevant science-based field
· PMP or equivalent certification will be an advantage
· Be a student of the hardscape/construction industry by constantly learning about new innovations and best practices. Use this knowledge to make procurement suggestions relating to what products to use and their availability
