Winter Education and Interpretation Internship

The internship is roughly three (3) months, with start dates in early January. Interns will generally work Tuesday-Saturday, 8:00am - 4:30pm. There may be opportunities for extension of the position based on student academic requirement, availability, and funding. The deadline to apply for the upcoming 2026 season is October 1, 2025. Priority will be given to applications received by August 25, 2025.

Work includes presenting virtual and in-person curriculum-based lessons and activities on topics such as ecology, ecosystem health, the National Park Service mission, and local history. Interns will also assist in leading snowshoe hikes for 3rd-12th grade students and for the general public. Interns will create content for the park’s social media platforms, including Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, and YouTube. They may also help facilitate night sky and Great Lakes ecosystem programming using an inflatable planetarium dome.

Interns receive a meal stipend of $42 per day, government housing, and a volunteer uniform. Interns are required to provide their own snow/rain pants and waterproof boots. Snowshoes will be available for the interns to use during educational and interpretive programs. While snowshoeing experience is not necessary, interns must be physically capable of snowshoeing.

This position is open to current college students and recent graduates.
