Advocacy Intern

Under the supervision of the Director of Government Affairs, the Advocacy intern will support the maintenance and expansion of the Food Bank’s advocacy capacity with emphasis on increasing stakeholder engagement. Key stakeholders include neighbors with lived experience in food insecurity, volunteers, donors, staff, and board members. This is a temporary position.


 

  

Key Responsibilities:

Support expansion of grassroots stakeholder advocacy 

  • Support communication with Neighbor Leadership Council (NLC) members, including making phone calls, sending reminders, fielding questions, etc.
  • Participate in NLC events to build relationships with neighbors as a trusted resource.
  • Support recruitment of new neighbors for advocacy efforts and council.
  • Support efforts to engage food bank supporters and staff in advocacy efforts.
  • Support qualitative & quantitative data collection and analysis.
  • Assist in development of materials and presentations for stakeholders.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Administrative Support

  • Support administrative tasks such as tracking stipends for neighbors & entering data on engagement efforts.
  • Schedule & support meetings with staff in elected offices as needed.
  • Generate and edit materials to support advocacy efforts.
  • Other duties as assigned.


 

Note: This is a part-time, 20 hours per week internship position. This is a year-long internship position. 



 

 

Requirements

 

  • Ability to adapt to a changing environment and manage multiple responsibilities.
  • Excellent interpersonal & written communications and analytical skills.
  • Experience and comfort working with data.
  • Demonstrates accuracy, thoroughness, and ability to work both independently and with a team.
  • Comfortable with presenting or facilitating in group settings.
  • Basic knowledge and experience working with Office software tools, such as Outlook, Word, and Excel.
  • Background in Advocacy, Social Work or Community Organizing a plus.
  • Visual data design and infographic design a plus
  • Has the ability to maintain confidentiality.
  • Act 33 & 34 Clearances
