Commonwealth Public Service Intern

THE POSITION

Are you looking for a civil engineering internship that offers hands-on experience with a diverse range of engineering projects, including highway and bridge design, as well as construction and maintenance? If so, the Department of Transportation, District 10 has an excellent opportunity to apply your academic knowledge in a practical environment under the guidance of seasoned engineers. DESCRIPTION OF WORK

In this internship, you will engage in construction inspection tasks related to both paving and structural projects. Your responsibilities will include conducting geotechnical assessments of foundation submissions and assisting in constructibility reviews during the design phase. Additionally, you will help develop a construction schedule for the project and review and approve schedules submitted by contractors. You will also participate in field observations for surface improvement initiatives.

Work Schedule and Additional Information:

  • Internship
  • Work hours are 7:30 AM to 3:30 PM, Monday - Friday, with a 30-minute lunch.
  • Scheduled hours may vary based on assignment within the rotation

REQUIRED EXPERIENCE, TRAINING & ELIGIBILITY

 

QUALIFICATIONS

Minimum Experience and Training Requirements:

  • Current enrollment as a full-time undergraduate student in an accredited college/university in a declared bachelor’s degree program and successful completion of at least sixty (60) college credits at the time of hire. Full time undergraduate students who have successfully completed at least thirty (30) college credits and anticipate the completion of at least sixty (60) college credits at the time of hire may apply for this program.
  • Current enrollment as a graduate student in an accredited college/university in a declared master’s or doctorate degree program at the time of hire.
