Network Engineer Intern
The Network Engineer Intern supports Liberty Alliance’s Technology Division by assisting with day-to-day operations and maintenance of our network infrastructure. This includes helping with the setup, configuration, monitoring, and troubleshooting of Unifi and Cisco network systems, including switches, firewalls, wireless access points, and VPN configurations. This internship is ideal for students pursuing a career in networking, cybersecurity, or IT infrastructure. POSITION REQUIREMENTS AND ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Monitor network performance to detect outages or anomalies.
- Perform basic troubleshooting for wired and wireless connectivity issues.
- Level 1 tickets related to network access and internet performance.
- Configuring and deploying Unifi and Cisco network devices (switches, firewalls).
- Document network configurations, diagrams, and inventory updates.
- Assist with the installation of cabling and physical infrastructure.
- Assist in firmware updates and patch management for network appliances.
- Support VPN setups and remote access provisioning.
- Participate in network security reviews and support firewall rule changes.
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams on site setup for events or special projects.
- Completes all other tasks and duties as needed to help drive Liberty Alliance’s Vision, fulfill our Mission, and abide by our organization’s values.
LEARNING OBJECTIVES:

QUALIFICATIONS:
- Basic knowledge of network operations and protocols (TCP/IP, DHCP, DNS, etc.)
- Familiarity with Cisco and or Unifi networking equipment. Hands-on experience with Unifi Controllers, VLANs, SSIDs, and PoE switches is a plus
- Strong troubleshooting and analytical skills
- Basic understanding of firewalls, routing, and subnetting
- Experience with network monitoring tools (e.g. Unifi Network, Cisco Meraki, PRTG, SolarWinds)
- Familiarity with ticketing systems and documentation tools
- Industry certifications (e.g. CompTIA Network+, Cisco CCT/CCNA, Ubiquiti UEWA)
- Ability to follow directions, document work, and learn in a fast-paced environment
- Excellent attention to detail, time management, and communication skills (verbal and written)
WORKING CONDITIONS/PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
Must be physically able to operate various machines and equipment, including computers, office equipment, telephones, etc. Physical demands are essentially those of sedentary work. Tasks may require extended periods at a keyboard or workstation. Must be able to lift up to 20 pounds at times.
