School Psychologist
Job Summary:
The Hyde Park Central School district is seeking a dedicated and qualified School Psychologist for a full-time leave replacement position at the elementary level. The successful candidate will provide comprehensive psychological services to support the academic, social, emotional, and behavioral development of elementary school students. This role involves collaboration with teachers, parents, administrators, and other support staff to create a positive and inclusive learning environment.
Responsibilities:
- Conduct comprehensive psychological evaluations for students referred for special education services, including cognitive, academic, social-emotional, and behavioral assessments.
- Interpret assessment results and write clear, concise, and legally compliant psychological reports.
- Participate in Committee on Special Education (CSE) and Committee on Preschool Special Education (CPSE) meetings, presenting evaluation findings and contributing to eligibility determinations and the development of Individualized Education Programs (IEPs).
- Provide counseling services (individual, group, and crisis intervention) to students as needed.
- Develop and implement behavior intervention plans (BIPs) and provide consultation to teachers and parents regarding behavior management strategies.
- Consult with teachers, parents, and administrators regarding student progress, instructional strategies, and classroom interventions.
- Collaborate with the Response to Intervention (RTI) team to support struggling learners.
- Conduct functional behavioral assessments (FBAs) as appropriate.
- Provide professional development to staff on topics related to child development, mental health, and behavior.
- Maintain accurate and confidential student records in accordance with district, state, and federal regulations.
- Adhere to ethical guidelines and professional standards set forth by the National Association of School Psychologists (NASP) and New York State Education Department.
- Perform other duties as assigned by the school principal based on student needs.
Qualifications:
- Valid New York State School Psychologist Certificate is required.
- Master's or Doctoral Degree in School Psychology from an accredited program.
- Experience working as a School Psychologist at the elementary school level is preferred.
- Knowledge of New York State special education laws and regulations.
- Strong assessment, diagnostic, and intervention skills.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Ability to work collaboratively as part of a multidisciplinary team.
- Demonstrated ability to build positive relationships with students, staff, and families.
- Proficiency in the use of technology for record-keeping, report writing, and communication.
