Elementary School Principal- repost

The Hyde Park Central School District seeks an experienced and dynamic Elementary School Principal. This full-time administrative role involves providing leadership, supervision, and general administration of a comprehensive and equitable elementary program. The Principal is tasked with maximizing the physical and social/emotional well-being of all students and staff in alignment with the District's mission, vision, and strategic plan. The Principal will work collaboratively with teachers, families, district leaders, and the community to foster an innovative learning environment that empowers all learners to succeed.

Qualifications:

Valid and appropriate New York State administrative certificate.

Ten years of teaching and/or administrative experience preferred.

Broad knowledge of school administration principles and practices, current educational trends in curriculum and instruction, methods, materials, procedures, and practices.

Successful experience at the elementary school level.

Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with staff and the school community.

Ability to manage fiscal, physical, and human resources to support office functions and programs.

Effective oral and written communication skills.

Knowledge of literacy skills and strategies, including reading, writing, listening, and speaking.

Flexibility, detail-oriented, ability to prioritize, handle ambiguity, and work well under pressure.

Knowledge of Mult-Tiered System of Supports (MTSS) and differentiated instruction.

Knowledge of NYS Learning Standards.

Ability to read, write, and interpret curriculum guides, budgets, assessment data, labor contracts, grant applications, statutes, and policies.

Ability to generate written memorandums, employee evaluations, and correspondence with business and public contacts.

Ability to write routine reports and correspondence.

Ability to multi-task and work effectively as a team member.

Responsibilities:

Curriculum and Instruction:

Establish and promote high standards and expectations for all students and staff to achieve academic excellence.

Collaborate with the Deputy Superintendent, Directors, other Principals, and Human Resources to implement professional development that fosters best practices in curriculum and instruction.

Commit to advancing equity in education, reducing achievement gaps, ensuring equitable access to resources, and addressing systemic barriers.

Stay informed on research findings, theories, and practices related to teaching and learning.

Regularly assess instructional programs and communicate needs to the Deputy and Superintendent.

Develop and ensure the implementation of high-quality, research-based instructional programs.

Evaluate and monitor data to appraise academic performance and develop instructional goals and actions.

Lead school-based planning processes to develop, implement, and evaluate school programs and activities related to the District's strategic plan.

Facilitate professional development through comprehensive planning and conduct these during faculty meetings, school-based team meetings, or other opportunities.

Identify teaching assignments for all certified staff and coordinate the development of the master schedule.

Facilitate successful transitions from grade to grade and collaborate with content-specific directors to match student programming to needs.

Use data to identify inequities, monitor progress toward equity goals, and inform decision-making related to instructional practices, resource allocation, and school policies.

Work with District and building administrators in areas related to curriculum, instruction, staff development, testing, assessment, scoring, and training.

Apply social-emotional learning theory and practices to create a supportive school climate, implement evidence-based SEL programs, and support students' and staff's social and emotional well-being.

Instructional Technological Fluency:

Select, use, and coach others using effective technological tools to strengthen school results and student achievement.

Embrace technology-rich instructional practices in the classroom.

Leverage technology platforms to inform planning and decision-making, promote efficiency in operations and enhance engagement with staff, parents/family, and community members.

Understand district, state, and federal guidance on the intentional, safe, and equitable use of technology for students and staff.

Students & Community:

Establish a school culture where all students feel valued, represented, and encouraged, supporting their well-being and academic growth.

Foster a sense of belonging and community among students, families, and staff from diverse backgrounds, including creating inclusive policies and practices, facilitating meaningful dialogue around diversity and inclusion, and celebrating cultural differences.

Establish and administer standards of student behavior that promote a positive climate for teaching and learning to maintain good order in the school and classrooms.

Embrace restorative practices and instructional strategies that promote a respectful, restorative, and resilient school environment.

Implement strategies to promote equity and inclusivity within the school community.

Develop, implement, and oversee philosophies and procedures to uphold the District's Code of Conduct.

Ensure the presence of effective programs and procedures to meet students' social-emotional, academic, physical, and behavioral needs.

Foster partnerships with students, staff, families, and the community to sustain a culture of academic success and social-emotional development.

Create and sustain a warm, welcoming, and inclusive environment for students, families, and staff.

Engage families and the community to support each child's learning and the school's goals.

Health and Safety:

Establish and implement student health and safety procedures.

Monitor and implement best practices to ensure regular student attendance and accurate attendance reporting.

Represent the school at conferences and meetings related to school administration.

Supervise health and safety in the building, working with staff to organize safety regulations, report serious accidents, conduct inspections, and arrange appropriate drills.

Work with the cafeteria manager and head custodian to ensure health standards are met, and work is performed efficiently.

Effective Communication:

Attend public meetings and school-sponsored activities regularly.

Use effective communication and collaboration skills to work with teachers, staff, students, families, and community stakeholders to promote a shared vision of excellence and responsiveness.

Interpret the school program to the community and provide appropriate written information to the public.

Partner with parents/guardians to support their children's educational, personal, social, and emotional growth.

Maintain effective communication with local and state educational and service organizations.

Serve as an administrative liaison to the parent association.

Personnel & Talent Retention:

Supervise and evaluate staff members, maintaining sound office procedures and accurate records for employees and students.

Work with other leadership staff to recruit, evaluate, and hire a diverse faculty and staff.

Counsel teachers to assist in solving instructional problems and create a collaborative atmosphere for solving school problems.

Implement a professional development program related to building and District-wide instructional goals, promoting continuous improvement among staff members.

Address personnel issues by involving all responsible parties in their resolution.

Plan orientation programs to acquaint new staff with building policies, procedures, and programs.

Evaluation:

Assume primary responsibility for the supervision and evaluation of staff members and programs.

Budget:

Collaborate with the Assistant Superintendent of Finance to develop an annual budget proposal.

Supervise budget components to ensure expenditures align with approved funding resources and practices.

Establish systematic procedures for business affairs, including processing requisitions, inventorying school property, scheduling field trips and other transportation requirements, and coordinating evening and weekend activities in the building.

Professional Growth:

Participate in activities leading to continued professional growth, including attending conferences, seminars, and workshops.

Other Duties:

Assist in implementing District policies, regulations, and procedures.

Perform other duties as required.
