  • Position Title: Immigration Intern, Palenque LSNA Immigration Services
  • Location: 2840 N Milwaukee Ave, Chicago, IL 60618
  • Fixed Pay Per Semester: $4320-$4800 (paid in three installments)
  • Hours: 10-15 hours per week
  • Start & End Date: August 26, 2025 -December 15, 2025 (possibility of extension for Spring 2026)

Organization General Description

Palenque is a multi-issue community organization, directly serving more that 6,500 residents across the 

Logan Square, Hermosa, and Avondale neighborhoods of Chicago and impacting tens of thousands more 

through nationally-recognized issue campaigns and programs. 

Department Description:  

The goal of the Immigration Legal Services Program is to provide direct legal services while engaging  clients

in advocacy and education and to provide resources for the community to prepare for changes in 

immigration policy. These services are part of our overall immigration work that responds to the ever

increasing attacks on immigrant justice. 
 

Internship Duties and Responsibilities: 

  • Provide professional and courteous service to clients and potential clients including answering and returning phone calls, case preparation, and case follow-up
  • Interview immigration clients to collect factual information related to their cases;
  • Take part in monthly citizenship workshops (one Saturday per month)
  • Manage and maintain sensitive and confidential information into database and prepare legal immigration documents and materials; ensuring it is handled securely
  • Attend and participate in required educational programs and staff meetings.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Essential Knowledge and Skills

  • Passionate about immigrants’ rights with a strong interest in representing underserved members of the community
  • Excellent interpersonal, written and oral communication skills
  • Excellent organizational and problem-solving skills
  • Ability to work well with people of diverse cultural, educational, and professional backgrounds • Bilingual in English and Spanish strongly preferred

Additional Information:

  • Open for undergraduate and graduate students
  • Students are required to attend at least two career development workshops offered by NEIU.
