Government Affairs Internship

Government Affairs Team Description:

We are looking for an exceptional Policy Intern to join our Government Affairs team. The technical team works with the community through public outreach efforts including research, conferences, advocacy, face-to-face touchpoints or meetings and more. Thus, the ideal candidate would bring a structured, yet entrepreneurial, approach to supporting our Government Affairs team in their efforts to participate and influence renewable energy policy.

 

Key Responsibilities:

  • Collaborate with the Government Affairs team re: stakeholder engagement ideas and efforts such as attending site visits, maintaining ongoing communications re: landowners and correlating projects,
  • Conduct research and organize information on requested counties or markets (i.e. Missouri), state officials driving key energy policies, permitting processes, federal and regulatory initiatives, etc. 
  • Analyze markets to identify key points of contact for the Government Affairs team,
  • Survey and assist with execution of cross-functional needs in re: to the Government Affairs team,
  • Proactively monitor current solar and other renewable energy policies and legislative bills at the county, state and federal levels,
  • Attend policy and committee meetings to delegate on behalf of the Government Affairs team, providing after-action agendas and key points for team review (as applicable).
  • Other duties as assigned.

 

Required Qualifications:

  • Current university student majoring in Political Science, Environmental or Public Policy, Environmental Studies, Economics or similar areas of study.
  • Strong knowledge or interest in government and energy-based legislation.
  • Desire to collaborate and contribute to company and team knowledge.
  • Excellent communication skills, highly organized, critical thinker, with high level of attention to detail.
  • Ability to work independently and as a team member; maintain an innovative mindset to operate as an important contributor within a fast-paced environment.

 

Preferred Qualifications:

  • An individual with at least 3 months of experience within the legislative, public or environmental policy industry preferred.
  • An individual with at least 3 months of experience with drafting and reviewing state and federal policies preferred.
  • An individual who resides in DC, Maryland or the IL area preferred.
  • Knowledge and activism in current renewable energy policies and law, a plus.

 

Internship Logistics:

  • Salary: Compensated internship.
  • Location: Preference for individual to be located in the DC, Maryland and/or the IL area, with ability to work from Chaberton headquarters in Rockville, MD at least 1-day per month and remotely (as applicable).
  • Schedule: Chaberton provides a flexible schedule and the opportunity to work in a dynamic startup environment.
    • Part-time internship targeting 20-25 hours/week.
    • 3-month Internship with possibility of extension.
    • September start date for Fall 2025 Internship.
