Coach (Early Learning)
Salary:
Bachelor’s Degree $ 27.00/hr ($48,600 Annually)
Master’s Degree $ 28.50/hr ($51,300 Annually)
FLSA Status: This is a non-exempt position.
Work Schedule: Monday - Friday, 7:30 am-3:30 pm.
This position works 240 days per year, 7.5 hours per day. Schedules may vary due to work assignments and projects.

Location: This position supports one of the Head Start/Early Head Start Campuses: Avondale (2302 Ocoee St), Cedar Hill (4701 Divine Ave), James A. Henry (1241 Grove St) or Daisy (9531 Ridge Trail Rd, Soddy Daisy). Requires travel between main sites and collaboration sites.
SUMMARY:
Chattanooga Head Start is a grant-funded program, and is subject to reapplication every 5 years.
Coaches provide intensive training to staff to ensure Head Start Program Performance Standards are met. Training provided may be geared towards professional development goals or in a remedial capacity, utilizing assessment data and scores and observational tools to determine targeted areas of improvement. Coaches are thoroughly familiar with program requirements and adult learning modalities, providing individual mentoring as well as group training opportunities at program-wide events. All employees employed by Chattanooga Head Start may work directly with children.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
The following duties are NOT intended to serve as a comprehensive list of all duties performed by all employees in this classification, only a representative summary of the primary duties and responsibilities.
- Provides intensive coaching to identified education staff in an organized and appropriate manner which supports a learning environment that is safe, healthy and cognitively oriented.
- Utilizes observation tools, assessment data, and education staff’s input to guide and support staff in professional development goals.
- Coaches the education staff in supporting, guiding, and modeling the curriculum and an individual assessment system to advance the development of each child in all developmental domains.
- Attends required pre-service and in-service training, as well as conducting workshops with staff.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
- Bachelor’s Degree in Early Childhood Education, Child and Family Studies or related field required.
- Any combination of equivalent experience and education to perform the essential functions of the position will be considered.
PREFERRED EXPERIENCE
- Early Childhood classroom experience
- Head Start Preschool/Early Head Start experience
- Experience training adult learners
LICENSING AND CERTIFICATIONS:
Must be able to obtain CLASS certification in Infant, Toddler, and Preschool within six months of hire.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS:
Positions in this class typically require: walking, standing, reaching, fingering, grasping, feeling, talking, hearing, seeing and repetitive motions.
WORK ENVIRONMENT:
Medium Work: Exerting up to 50 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 20 pounds of force frequently, and/or up to 10 pounds of force constantly to move objects.
This position is classified as Medium Work in accordance with Head Start Program Performance Standards, which require all staff—regardless of job function—to support the health and safety of children. This may include the direct supervision of children and/or the ability to respond promptly and effectively during emergencies at a Head Start center.

SUPPLEMENTAL INFORMATION:
This position is subject to pre-employment screenings, which include a background check, drug screening, lift test, TB screening questionnaire and/or TB skin test (as determined by initial results), complete physical examination, Hepatitis B titer, and fingerprinting. Ongoing requirements include a physical reexamination on an annual or bi-annual basis and fingerprint clearance every five years.
