Current Events Intern

Current Events Intern

Introduction: ACE is seeking Current Events Interns to join our Current Events team for Fall 2025. Current Events interns are responsible for pitching and authoring current events articles on pressing policy issues over the course of our Fall 2025 research cycle. Interns will work directly with both the Director of Policy Research to brainstorm and develop short news-focused articles. ACE’s Current Events Interns are an essential part of our mission to civically engage young voters through accessible, nuanced, and nonpartisan policy research.

The Fall 2025 research cycle runs from September 8th through December 5th, with a one-week break beginning November 24th.

Detailed Description: Current Events Interns have the opportunity to pitch and develop short articles on pressing topics that are in the news. Current events articles are typically shorter and less in-depth than policy briefs, but provide more historical context than a typical "breaking news" article. Our current events articles are meant to catch readers' attention on pressing topics and link them to the more in-depth policy briefs on ACE's site. Due to the short length and timeliness of current events articles, current events interns are expected to produce one article every 1-3 weeks on a rotating basis. Within the onboarding period of the Fall cycle, the Current Events team will receive a calendar with their assigned authorship weeks. At the beginning of an assigned authorship week, the Current Events intern will submit an article pitch to the Director of Policy Research who will provide feedback and give the intern a green light to write their article. Current events articles will be copy edited and published on the ACE site within a week of submission. On non-authorship weeks, current events interns will be responsible for writing update blurbs for outdated briefs on the ACE website. Current events interns will attend a check-in meeting with the Director of Policy Research every other week or as needed.
