Why does the job exist?

 

This position will support the Drug Screening section of the Forensic Toxicology Bureau.

How does it get done?

 

Approximately 90 % of key responsibilities are administrative clerical which includes subpoena and court calendar assignments, data entry, answering telephone calls and responding to emails from law enforcement agencies and/or law offices. This may include processing telephone or in-person requests for discoveries such as subpoenas duces tecum. Incumbent must represent the bureau professionally during telephonic and in person interactions, as well as providing thorough documentation of all telephonic communications. Provide support by receiving, storing, and preserving physical evidence custody. Maintain proper storage of evidence and file management. Approximately 10% of job responsibilities will require sample handling and storage maintenance in the forensic laboratory.

The duties of this job will be performed to contribute to the overall safety of the citizens throughout the state of New Mexico.

Ideal Candidate

 

Two (2) years' experience in general clerical work and computer operations. Two (2) years' experience handling and storing samples, especially in a forensic laboratory setting. Knowledge of the criminal justice system, willingness to follow instruction and unafraid to ask questions, able to work well and collaborate with others. Punctuality and time management are key aspects of this position.

Minimum Qualification

 

High school diploma or equivalent. For positions in the Forensic Laboratory, one (1) year experience in general clerical work and computer operations. For positions in the Law Enforcement Records Bureau, one (1) year experience in general clerical work and computer operations.

Employment Requirements

 

Must possess and maintain a valid New Mexico Driver's License.  Must possess and maintain a current Defensive Driving Course certificate from the State of New Mexico or must pass and receive a Defensive Driving Course certificate as a condition of continued employment.  In state and out of state travel may be required.  Successful completion of Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA) is required.

This position is designated a safety sensitive. Employment is subject to pre-employment and random testing, in accordance with all terms and conditions of federal and state law, rules and regulations in relation to alcohol and/or drug testing.

Working Conditions

 

Work is performed in a fully functional laboratory containing biological, chemical, physical, and radiological hazards.  Incumbent will be required to use all applicable safety equipment provided by the employer and follow all safety precautions specified by the employer.  There will be extended standing, repetitive trunk/arm/hand/neck movements with computer usage or assay/methodologies utilized.  Work involves using high voltage electronic instrumentation, and high-pressure gas cylinders.  Ability to lift/push up to 50 lbs.
