Community Services Recreation Coordinator

The City of Kerman is looking to hire a full time Recreation Coordinator. Under the general direction of the Director of Community Services, the Recreation Coordinator will plan, evaluate, coordinate, supervise recreation programs and services for youth, adult, senior or handicapped programs. Coordinate recreation activities with outside community agencies or businesses to enhance programming. Manage and supervise independent contractors; develop and administer marketing efforts to promote programs or services; develop and monitor budgets; provide highly responsible and technical staff assistance; and to do related work as required.

The incumbent must exercise independent judgment in the performance of a variety of professional, simple or complex recreational program supervision duties or neighborhood service program duties with only occasional instruction or assistance. The incumbent is expected to perform duties with an emphasis on actively supervising, recruiting, training and evaluating staff. Must be able to respond to inquiries and respond appropriately and promptly.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

· Develops the Department’s activity guide.

· Develops, schedules, implements, supervises and evaluates major recreation and enrichment programs and special events.

· Prepares written reports, press releases and public relations materials, flyers and pamphlets for programs.

· Selects, supervise, train and evaluate part-time personnel and volunteers.

· Recruit and register community members for recreational programs.

· Prepare reports, maintain records related to recreation programs and recommend new recreation programs.

· Purchase requisition and delivery of equipment and supplies to recreational personnel and participants.

· Assists in preparation, monitoring and administration of department and program budgets, including expenditure justification.

· Makes and implements operational decisions in accordance with City policies and procedures, and serves as liaison to promote effective communication and positive working relationships with other department city staff, youth sports leagues, members of the public, community groups and school district personnel.

· Process park and facility rentals for customers and scheduling of part-time facility attendants.

· Operation of personal computers, including desktop publishing, program and facility registration, word processing, and other Citywide and department-specific applications to promote activities.

· Plan, organize, supervise, lead and participate in a recreation program for community service programs. 

· Pursue grants, sponsorships and fund-raising for events as assigned.

· Performs other related duties as required.

Minimum Qualifications

Education and Experience — Equivalent to graduation from a four-year college or university with major coursework in recreation administration, physical education, leisure services or a related field. Two years (2) years’ full-time or its equivalent of recreation experience and or supervisory experience of school age children or youth; or an equivalent combination of education and experience sufficient to successfully perform the essential duties of the job listed above.

Certifications — Possession of a valid California Class C Drivers License is required. Possession of, or ability to obtain, current CPR and First Aid certificates (ability to maintain throughout employment). Lifesaving and Water safety instruction may also be required.

Physical Demands — Sitting for extended periods of time, lifting or pulling up to 50 pounds, performing repetitive body movements, ability and willingness to administer CPR & First Aid, remain calm in difficult situations and circumstances; move tables, chairs, and recreation equipment; lift equipment and supplies from 5 to 50 lbs. in weight.
