Terminal Data Analyst I

POSITION SUMMARY:

The Terminal Data Analyst I is the introductory management role on the Terminal Resources Team. The Terminal Resources Team is essential to supporting regulatory compliance, operational efficiency, and cost-control for the company’s container terminal in Long Beach, CA.  The Terminal Data Analyst I will collaborate with department leaders to ensure all data is accurately captured and effectively utilized to optimize terminal operations and drive strategic decision-making. This position also plays a critical role in the timely and accurate ordering and dispatching of ILWU Longshore personnel for all assigned terminal operations, including vessel, yard, gate, and rail activities. 

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  1. Maintaining a clean and organized workspace.
  2. Analyze operational needs to ensure contractual compliance and accurate ordering of Longshore labor with the appropriate ILWU Union Locals for operational and cost efficiency.
  3. Leads the daily coordination, organization, and execution of resource allocation needs for all affected departments.
  4. Collaborates with all operational and support departments to obtain, analyze, and verify accuracy of data to identify opportunities for process and workflow improvement. 
  5. Supports Terminal Resources Leadership on analyzing existing workflows and processes, ensuring that department stakeholder needs are met, and planning for necessary future modifications and improvements.
  6. Collaborates across departments in order to obtain, process, and manage operational data for regulatory compliance, sustainability reporting, and operational efficiency.
  7. Analyzes financial information and reports to identify cost control opportunities
  8. Perform triangulation of key data to validate specific costs for the terminal.
  9. Perform other related duties as assigned by management.
  10. Special projects as directed by management.

 

REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:

  1. Outstanding analytical and quantitative skills; ability to resolve tough business problems with well-structured analyses.
  2. Competence working in SharePoint and with other supporting Microsoft 365 applications including: Forms, Teams, OneNote, OneDrive, (Power Automate, Power BI, and Power Apps.).
  3. Excellent interpersonal skills; ability to interact with a variety of persons throughout the corporation.
  4. Ability to remain calm and professional during confrontational situations.
  5. Possess the ability to speak clearly and effectively.
  6. Effective public speaking and presentation skills; be able to present and defend a point of view.
  7. Possess interpersonal and teamwork skills, communicate constructively and confidently, listen openly, and collaborate well with staff and others in different groups.
  8. Ability to relate information from a multitude of sources.
  9. Capability to turn theoretical information into practical applications.
  10. Convey a professional and positive attitude with action/results orientation to problem solving and elimination of backlogs.
  11. Proven ability and experience in exercising good judgment and discretion in handling confidential materials and matters.
  12. Possess strong organizational and analytical skills in managing to daily, weekly, monthly, quarterly or annual deadlines and is receptive to innovative ideas and suggestions to think strategically about the long-term vision.
  13. Ability to handle multiple demands; and prioritize workloads; establish and maintain positive, cooperative, and productive working relationships.
  14. Flexible to a changing list of priorities, sometimes daily.
  15. Excellent attention to detail with a high degree of accuracy.
  16. Solid understanding and familiarity with Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook, Access, Power Point and Visio).

 

EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE

  • BA/BS Degree in Data Analytics, Business Administration, or related field (IT, Finance, etc.) and/or;
  • 3-5 years of relevant experience in a fast paced, timeline driven, detail-oriented environment.

 

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

 

  1. The ability to work any day, including weekends and holidays.
  2. The ability to work flexible hours both before and after a normal daily shift.
  3. The ability to walk and stand for extended periods of time.
  4. The ability to use a computer and keyboard.
  5. The ability to sit and work at desk and on a computer for extended periods of time.
  6. The ability to travel on business, if required.

WORKING ENVIRONMENT

The work is performed inside at LBCT sites, including temporary offices.  Position is based in Draper, UT; work assignments may require travel to other locations.
