Atlanta Police Foundation-AmeriCorps Cadet Academy
The Atlanta Police Foundation is launching an exciting new program! The Cadet Academy is a partnership between AmeriCorps, the Atlanta Police Department, and the City of Atlanta. The program has a dual focus on service and career readiness. Cadets will serve the local senior population by helping administer a variety of recreational activities while also completing a curriculum to help them gain a better understanding of careers in public safety.
*This is a half-time program with flexible scheduling. We will work with successful applicants to ensure that they can attend school and pursue this opportunity concurrently.
Location: Atlanta, GA; various locations
Term: October 1, 2025 – July 31, 2026
Compensation: $15/hour, 20-25 hours per week. Those who complete the program will receive an additional $7,000 education stipend.
Responsibilities
- Cadets will spend 80% of their time serving the local senior population by helping Atlanta Police and Atlanta Recreation Department staff administer athletic, arts, and self-defense programming.
- Cadets will spend the remaining 20% of their time completing an experiential learning curriculum in law enforcement. Individuals will spend time in and out of a classroom setting, gaining insights into exciting career opportunities in public safety.
Qualifications
- Must be 18-20.5 years of age at the start of the program
- Must be able to participate in moderate to strenuous physical activity, coaching and refereeing athletic activities such as pickleball or water aerobics
- Must have strong social skills, and the ability to communicate effectively with seniors in a fun environment
- Preferred that applicants have an interest in exploring careers in law enforcement
