Health and Wellness Coordinator
The Joffrey Ballet School is seeking a dedicated and dynamic Health & Wellness Coordinator to support our vibrant community of pre-professional dancers. This in-person role is critical to ensuring that students receive comprehensive, consistent care across physical and emotional domains.
Reporting directly to the Health & Wellness Director, the Coordinator will blend administrative support with hands-on student care, contributing to a healthy, thriving environment for all students.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in a related field (e.g., dance, exercise science, kinesiology, health sciences, social work, psychology, public health, or a similar discipline).
- Background in dance.
- Strong understanding of dancer-specific challenges (e.g., pointe shoe pain, perfectionism, body image concerns).
- Proven administrative skills, including scheduling, recordkeeping, and coordinating with external wellness providers.
- Current CPR certification.
- Enthusiasm for supporting and helping students, with a compassionate and proactive approach to their well-being.
- Must be able to work on-site at Joffrey Ballet School Manhattan and/or Long Island City locations, Monday–Friday.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience in mental health and/or physical health-related fields, such as pre-physical therapy, exercise science, social work, psychology, or public health.
- Experience with holistic wellness approaches (e.g., somatic practices, Pilates, nutrition, meditation, mental health support).
Minimum requirements:
- 18 or older and permitted to work in the United States
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills in English.
- Work well in a team to effectively build community.
- Demonstrate sound project management skills, including the ability to manage multiple projects.
- Effectively interpret and follow policies and procedures.
- Comply with directions and instructions from supervisors.
- Provide equal and fair treatment for all.
Responsibilities
- Review student medical forms and doctor’s notes; track absences and injuries.
- Monitor student messages, maintain Health & Wellness and Physical Therapy logs, and communicate student needs across programs.
- Conduct wellness checks and support students experiencing illness, injury, or mental health concerns, including regular communication with parents while maintaining professionalism and confidentiality.
- Assist with injury evaluations and provide hands-on first aid care.
- Collaborate with Artistic Directors, Program Coordinators, and the Health & Wellness team to align student care.
- Coordinate Health & Wellness services and appointments, including the massage therapy clinic (scheduling, release forms, and sign-ups).
- Manage and restock medical kits across studios, dorms, and theaters; maintain ice and heat pack inventory; and prepare supplies for performances.
- Support the Trainee Work Study Program and assist with training and onboarding summer Health & Wellness interns.
Compensation
Annual salary of 45,000 - 50,000
Time Commitment
Full-time, on-site. Standard schedule is Monday–Friday, 8-hour shifts (e.g., 8:30 AM–4:30 PM or 10:00 AM–6:00 PM), with additional hours as needed for performances.
