Student Office Assistant
JOB SUMMARY
Student Office Assistants (SOA) play a significant role in the administrative support of the front office operations by triaging phone calls, emails, and in-person visits to the main Housing Office in 448 Hamlin Hall.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
- Must have sophomore, junior, or senior class standing or be a graduate student at Oakland University by fall 2024
- Current cumulative and semester GPA must be 2.75 or higher
- Must not be found responsible for serious conduct violations
RESPONSIBILITIES AND DUTIES
- Greet in-person guests and answer phones
- Assist with residential check-ins/outs and room change processes.
- Support key distribution and collection process
- File paper documents and prepare mailings
- Complete campus delivery runs as needed
- Provide Housing tours to prospective residents
- Connect students to relevant university resources
- Completing daily rounds through residence hall service desks
- Complete special projects and other tasks as needed

DEPARTMENT CONDITIONS
- Act in accordance with all University Housing staff policies as outlined in the University Housing Staff Manual Google Site.
- Act in accordance with all University Housing policies in the Housing Handbook.
- Act in accordance with the Clery Act as a mandated reporter and carry out responsibilities in reporting a crime on campus as a University Housing staff member.
- Must be free of student conduct sanctions and uphold the University’s Student Code of Conduct, the Housing Handbook, and all of University Housing’s staff policies at the time of application and throughout employment.
- Maintain a minimum of a 2.75 cumulative and semester GPA. If the staff member’s GPA falls below the requirement, that staff member may be placed on academic notice or be subject to termination.
- Must be enrolled full-time, at least 12 credit hours per semester, at Oakland University unless otherwise approved by the supervisor.
POSITION SPECIFIC CONDITIONS
- Must be able to work between 10-25 hours per week; hours worked may fluctuate and extend past regular hours of operation (after 5 p.m.)
- Having one year of Oakland University experience is preferred
- Be comfortable using the Google Drive platform, including Sheets, Docs, Calendar, Sites, and Forms
- Possess a professional demeanor, a high level of maturity, and an ability to use independent judgment
- Be familiar with OU resources, services, and departments
- Be an effective communicator with Housing staff and guests
- Be able to think critically, problem-solve, and utilize Housing resources as needed to support residents, prospective residents, and Housing Office guests
- Be comfortable working in a fast-paced and team-oriented environment
- Maintain high levels of energy and enthusiasm
If one or more of these conditions are violated, you will be provided a timely and orderly process for the investigation and adjudication of the alleged violations. If you are determined to be responsible for the alleged violations, you will be subject to disciplinary action as outlined in the training manual.
SUPERVISION RECEIVED
Students will directly report to the Office Manager for daily operations and questions. Students will indirectly report to the Assistant Director for Assignments and Summer Conferences.
