
Social Media Intern
Primary Purpose of the Role:
Support the 417 Magazine creative and digital teams by producing dynamic and engaging social media content that aligns with our brand.
Responsibilities:
- Create engaging video clips, reels, or stories using existing footage or newly captured content.
- Maintain consistency with 417’s brand voice and visual aesthetic.
- Build and send e-newsletters and e-blasts through Hubspot, including integration with social media content.
- Upload articles, calendar items, and other content to 417's websites, ensuring accuracy and timeliness.
- Assist with digital presence at events, including live social media coverage and content creation in real-time.
- Collaborate with the creative and digital teams to brainstorm content ideas and social campaigns.
- Research emerging digital and social media trends, brainstorm new strategies, and contribute ideas to improve digital engagement and audience growth.
- Optionally attend local photo shoots or events to gather behind-the-scenes content.
- Track, analyze, and report on the performance of social media campaigns and content, using data to refine strategies.
Skills and Strengths:
- Familiarity with TikTok, Instagram Reels and emerging social media trends
- Basic video editing skills and a strong eye for compelling short-form content
- Passion for storytelling and visual communication
- Strong sense of initiative and ability to work independently
- Ability to receive feedback and adjust content accordingly
- Comfortable managing multiple projects at once
Requirements:
- Must provide a resume and samples of past social media, video, or editing work with application
- Must have familiarity with video editing software (such as CapCut, Adobe Premiere Rush, Final Cut Pro, etc.)
Bonus for the Overachievers:
- Photography, graphic design, or motion graphics skills
- Experience on-camera or in social media strategy
- Interest in journalism, publishing, or local culture
Terms:
- This is an unpaid internship designed to provide valuable real-world experience
- The internship may be eligible for school credit depending on your institution's policies
- Hours per day and number of days worked per week is determined based on the applicant’s availability, and agreed upon between the intern and creative director at the time of hire
- The position will include mid-point and final evaluations
- Intern will walk away with professional experience and portfolio-worthy projects
Environmental Requirements:
- May work remotely for editing duties
- Occasional travel within 417-land to attend shoots or events
- Flexible working hours
