Job Description

Position Title:  Associate Director of Evangelization

I.        Introduction

The St. Rose Family of Parishes is seeking a full-time Associate Director of Evangelization. This person will report to the Director of Evangelization (DoE) and is a key member of the Evangelization Team (EV team). The Associate Director will be in charge of the discipleship path and programming for children (K-5) and youth (6-12).  They will also be in charge of Sacramental Preparation for First Reconciliation/First Communion (2nd grade) and Confirmation (7th-8th grades).  Currently, there is no youth ministry.   This person will be assisted in these tasks by the DoE, and will need to work well with said Director. 

The successful candidate must understand that the goal of bringing all people to Christ and His Church is a task that cannot be done in a vacuum. We will be always operating from a principle of whole family catechesis and evangelization, not just the kids.

II.      Duties

Summary: Oversee the running and implementation of the CCD programming, including 1st Communion/Reconciliation preparation and Confirmation preparation (currently k-8). 

  • CCD programming (currently transitioning from 3 separate programs on Sunday morning to a single program on a week-night)
    1. Acquire and train catechists/volunteers to assist in this task.
    2. Research and develop better strategies for accomplishing evangelization of the children (and by extension families). 
  • 1st Communion/Reconciliation preparation
    1. Acquire and train catechists/volunteers to assist in this task.
    2. Research and develop better strategies for accomplishing formation of the children to be prepared to receive as much grace as they are able to receive from the Sacraments. 
      1. Research and develop better strategies to empower parents to be the primary catechists to their children. 
  • Confirmation preparation (currently every other year, including the 2025-2026 school year)
    1. Acquire, and train catechists/volunteers to assist you in this task.
    2. Research and develop better strategies for accomplishing formation of the youth to be prepared to receive as much grace as they are able to receive from the Sacrament. 
      1. Research and develop better strategies to empower parents to be the primary catechists to their youth. 
      2. Determine with the DoE when would be the most effective time to Confirm the youth, as well as moving to an every year program model. 
  • Coordinate programming with Catholic Central (k-12 school)
  • Research and order supplies for programming for children/youth groups such as books, materials, pamphlets, etc.
  • Research opportunities for parish growth/renewal in whole family formation, with an emphasis on children and youth
  • Oversee budget and expenses for children/youth evangelization efforts while coordinating registration and collection of fees for programs
  • In time, assist in the implementation of a youth ministry program
  • Serve as the Safe Environment Coordinator (SafeParish)
  • Weekly one on ones with DoE, in addition to EV team meetings. 
  • Develop working relationships with neighboring parishes by attending Archdiocesan meetings
  • Assist in hosting Archdiocesan or other evangelization events at the churches in St. Rose Family.
  • Including additional duties determined by the DoE and/or Pastor.

III.    Candidate Expectations

  • Must complete and maintain compliance with all Archdiocese of Cincinnati Safe Environment policies
  • Must complete a background check
  • Must participate in continuing education in the area of religious education and evangelization.

IV.    Skills, Knowledge, and Abilities

Must be a fully initiated and fervently practicing Roman Catholic in good standing.

Must have:

  •  An orthodox understanding and love of the Catholic faith 
  • Daily prayer life and living relationship with Jesus
  • Zeal for the mission of Catholic evangelization, bringing others to Christ and His Church

Must be highly proficient in and comfortable:

  • Leading groups in vocal prayer
  • Engaging in sensitive pastoral conversations
  • Using oral and written communication skills
  • Leading teams of people with a variety of backgrounds and contributions
  • Using the Bible, the Catechism of the Catholic Church, and Church encyclicals and documents

Must desire to participate in:

  • Creatively try new initiatives
  • Operating within supervisor’s vision, engaging in long-term planning initiatives

Must have skills and abilities in:

  • Attention to detail and organization
  • Current communications technologies
  • Computers and software such as Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Google Workspace


 

V.    Education, Training, and Experience

  • Strongly prefer a Bachelor's degree in Pastoral Ministry, Religious Studies, Theology, Religious Education, or related field, or commensurate ministry experience
  • Minimum 2 years experience in children/youth ministry
  • Experience in leading volunteers, and running programming for children
  • Experience in teaching and presenting to people in a variety of settings
  • Familiarity with FOCUS/SPO/NET and their models of evangelization a huge plus

VI.   Working Environment

This position requires off-site work and frequent evening, weekends
