This position serves as the Lab Systems Analyst I, supporting Illinois Department of Public Health (IDPH).  

In this role you will perform difficult and specialized work for Laboratory information Management Systems (LIMS) and will consult with user representatives to develop information technology solutions to existing or prospective applications of normal complexity. 

In addition, you will create and modify the requirements and design documents within LIMS and develop and coordinate training for staff on the use of the computer programs and software for the projects deployed for the Lab.

Essential Functions

  • Under general direction, serves as the Application Developer performing difficult and specialized work in Laboratory Information Management Systems (LIMS) for the Department of Innovation & Technology (DoIT) supporting Illinois Department of Public Health (IDPH).
  • Consults with user representatives to develop information technology solutions to existing or prospective applications of normal complexity.
  • Creates and modifies requirements and design documents within LIMS.
  • Develops and coordinates training for staff on the use of the computer programs and software for the projects deployed for the Lab.
  • Keeps abreast of new developments in the Information Technology field by continuing education through online training programs, meetings, training sessions, seminars, and conferences to increase familiarity with and remain current on products, vendors, techniques, and procedures.
  • Performs other duties as required or assigned which are reasonably within the scope of the duties enumerated above.

 

Minimum Qualifications

  • Requires knowledge, skill, and mental development equivalent to four (4) years of college with course work in computer science or directly related fields.
  • Requires one (1) year of professional experience in Application Services or a related Information Technology field.

Preferred Qualifications (In Order of Significance)

  • One (1) year of professional experience analyzing and documenting business processes and workflows to define problems, identify requirements, and recommend improvements in Laboratory Information Management Systems (LIMS).
  • One (1) year of professional experience evaluating and recommending potential software solutions, including off-the-shelf and open-source operations to ensure alignment with technical architecture and business objectives.
  • One (1) year of professional experience developing use cases, functional requirements, and technical specifications to support application development and system enhancements.
  • One (1) year of professional experience coordinating requirements validation and leading stakeholder walk-throughs and signoffs to ensure technical documentation accurately reflects user needs.
  • One (1) year of professional experience performing troubleshooting, testing, and updates to laboratory-related applications, equipment, and data workflow.
  • Ability to deliver user training or technical instruction related to software systems or tools in a laboratory or healthcare IT environment.
  • Ability to analyze complex data logically and develop solutions for operational or procedural issues.
  • Developed communication skills to communicate technical concepts clearly and effectively in verbal and written form to both technical and non-tech
  • Ability to gain and maintain collaborative working relationships with internal teams, vendors, and external stakeholders.
