Special Event Staff

SouthWest Transit is an award-winning public transit agency serving the core areas of Chaska, Chanhassen, and Eden Prairie. We currently offer express bus service to and from Downtown Minneapolis, the University of Minnesota, and Normandale Community College as well as daily on-demand micro-transit service in our core service area as well as adjacent cities in Carver, Scott, and Hennepin counties. In addition to our regular services, we also offer seasonal services including the Minnesota State Fair, Twins Express, Vikings Express, Gophers Express, select concerts, and more.

Job Summary:
SouthWest Transit is looking for Guest Services Attendants, Bus Zone Coordinators, and Special Event Supervisors to work the 2 weeks of the State Fair (8/21 - 9/28) and weekends of the Renaissance Festival (8/16 - 9/28). The days and hours worked are flexible.

The Special Event Supervisor is responsible for overseeing operations at a designated fairground or park-and-ride site. Their duties include opening/closing the site, supporting bus loading, supervising staff, assisting guests, coordinating with dispatch, and maintaining cleanliness. This position acts as the main point of contact for on-site support roles and ensures a smooth, guest-friendly experience.

The Bus Zone Coordinator supports the Special Event Supervisor by helping load buses, calling up the next bus, and communicating with dispatch as needed. They engage with guests in line to provide information and ensure a smooth, positive waiting experience.

Guest Services Attendant supports event operations by either selling tickets at the booth or assisting guests in the bus loading area. Responsibilities include handling payments, answering questions, helping guests with strollers and mobility devices, and maintaining a clean and welcoming environment.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities

Special Event Supervisor ($25/hr + bonus):

  • Open/close the park and ride facility/fairground area at which you are assigned
    • Ensure sales equipment is set up and operational when opening/stored securely when closing
    • Ensure all scheduled staff at their location have arrived at their scheduled time
  • Assist in loading the bus and calling up the next bus
  • Engage with guests in line to ensure they are informed, comfortable, and having a positive experience while they wait
  • Communicate (via radio) with dispatch regarding any bus needs (i.e., the need of an accessible vehicle)
  • Ensure that operations at your location are running smoothly
  • Act as the point of contact for the Buz Zone Coordinators and Guest Services Attendants at your location and assist these roles as needed
  • Ensure the cleanliness of grounds, lobbies, and restrooms.
  • Ensure that restrooms are stocked with supplies.
  • Other duties as assigned

Bus Zone Coordinator ($23/hr + bonus):

  • Assist the Special Event Supervisor in loading the bus and calling up the next bus
  • Communicate as needed with dispatch regarding any bus needs (i.e., the need of an accessible vehicle) 
  • Engage with guests in line to ensure they are informed, comfortable, and having a positive experience while they wait

Guest Services Attendant ($20/hr + bonus):

  • Guest Services Attendants may work at the ticket booth or assist in the bus area as Passenger Guides, helping with lines, strollers, and guest questions 
    • Ticket Seller
      • Sell tickets to the public using the Square POS system to take cash or credit card payments.
      • Ensure cash, tickets, and Square POS systems are securely stored away at the end of the day.
      • Interact with customers and answer questions regarding the SWT State Fair and Renaissance Festival busing service.
      • Ensure the cleanliness of grounds, lobbies, and restrooms.
      • Other duties as assigned.
    • Passenger Guide
      • Direct passengers from the parking ramp or fairgrounds to the bus boarding area.
      • Assist passengers with boarding the bus.
      • Load and unload strollers and other mobility devices into the bus storage compartment.
      • Engage with guests in line to ensure they are informed, comfortable, and having a positive experience while they wait.
      • Ensure the cleanliness of grounds, lobbies, and restrooms.
      • Other duties as assigned.
         

Minimum Qualifications

Special Event Supervisor:

  • At least 18 years old or older
  • 1-2 years' experience in a supervisory role

Bus Zone Coordinator:

  • At least 18 years old or older

Guest Services Attendant:

  • At least 16 years old or older

All positions:

  • Ability to understand and follow directions
  • Interpersonal Skills (i.e., communication skills, empathy, patience, etc.)
  • Ability to have a cheerful disposition and tone when interacting with all kinds of customers

 

Physical Demands & Working Conditions

Special Event Supervisor/Bus Zone Coordinator:
Work is primarily outdoors. Much of the workday is spent walking or standing. Work involves walking on uneven surfaces. Frequent lifting, pushing, or pulling of items over 60 pounds or applying equivalent torque is required. The noise level in the working environment is usually moderate but can be loud in some areas. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is often exposed to moving vehicles and occasionally exposed to wet, cold, and/or hot/humid conditions.

Guest Services Attendant:
Work is a mix of indoors (ticket seller) and outdoors (rider guide). Much of the workday is spent standing or sitting. The noise level in the working environment is usually moderate but can be loud in some areas. Frequent lifting, pushing, or pulling of items over 60 pounds or applying equivalent torque is required (rider guide). While performing the duties of this job, the employee is exposed to moving vehicles and wet, cold, hot and/or humid conditions.

Please note: The Supervisor and Bus Zone Coordinator positions are considered safety-sensitive under DOT regulations, and all candidates must pass a pre-employment drug test before starting work. 

A minimum number of 5 shifts worked during the State Fair/Renaissance Festival is required. However, the preferred minimum number of shifts worked during the State Fair is 10. All roles are eligible to receive a bonus if they work the 10 shifts.
