The City of Salisbury’s Public Works Department is seeking an enthusiastic and motivated student currently enrolled in a college, university, or technical institute with an interest in local government, public service, mechanics, equipment and vehicle repairs. This internship offers a valuable opportunity to gain hands-on experience in the field of local government fleet services.
 

Interns will apply classroom learning to real-world projects while developing key professional skills, including:
• Assisting with maintenance and repairs on city vehicles and equipment
• Learning basic troubleshooting and diagnostics
• Gaining familiarity with parts inventory, purchasing processes, and fleet service scheduling
• Participating in recordkeeping and inspection tasks
• Developing professional workplace habits and safety practices in a shop environment
 

By the end of this internship, participants will have a stronger foundation for careers in mechanics, fleet services, or public service—along with a portfolio of marketable, real-world experience.

Minimum Requirements:
• Enrollment in coursework related to auto mechanics, automotive systems (including engines, brakes, steering/suspension, and electrical), or related fields
• Interpersonal communication skills
• Must have a valid NC Driver’s License
 

Salary: $15.00 per hour
Hours: Varies
