Position Overview:

The Cultural Programming Chair (CPC) is a leadership volunteer position with 20 openings across Fordham’s campuses for the 2025–2026 academic year. Two CPCs (one per campus) will represent the following committees:

  • Latine Heritage
  • LGBTQ
  • Middle Eastern and North African (MENA)
  • Native and Indigenous
  • Black Heritage
  • Women
  • Asian Pacific Islander Desi American (APIDA)
  • International
  • First-Generation
  • Disability/Accessibility

As a CPC, you will collaborate on OMA's Programming Board with an OMA Graduate Intern to plan, organize, and execute engaging programs during your designated heritage/history month and beyond. This is a unique opportunity to showcase your creativity, leadership, and dedication to cultural advocacy.

The Office of Multicultural Affairs (OMA) Programming Board is a leadership body of student Cultural Programming Chairs who represent various identity groups. This board is dedicated to fostering cultural awareness, diversity, and inclusion through engaging programming and collaborative initiatives at Fordham University.

 

Key Responsibilities:

Programming (Celebrations/Holidays/Awareness Days/Heritage Months/History Months):

  • Organize at least three programs for your committee:
    • A large signature event
    • An excursion
    • An interactive tabling event
  • Develop a comprehensive heritage/history month calendar or committee save-the-date poster and coordinate with cultural clubs to create a cohesive university-wide schedule.

Event Execution:

  • Oversee social media engagement by creating and posting event fliers, reels, and educational content.
  • Assist OMA Graduate Intern in developing shopping lists, program schedules, any additional program logistics.
  • Coordinate with co-CPC and Graduate Intern on event staffing and hosting.
  • Manage $4,000* budget for your committee programs (Budget amount subject to change).
  • Recruit and coordinate volunteer committee members for program day-of responsibilities (e.g., staffing, setup, attendance).

Collaboration:

  • Partner with campus departments to create programs on topics like:
    • Career preparation
    • Wellness/mental health
    • Religion/spirituality
    • Community service
    • Disability awareness
    • Social bonding events
  • Attend monthly OMA Programming Board meetings to provide updates, progress, and explore intersectional programming opportunities.
  • Conduct outreach communication and meet with identity aligning clubs to identify their programs to partner and promote.

Consistent Communication:

  • Maintain regular communication (weekly/biweekly meetings - subject to change throughout year) with your assigned OMA Graduate Intern to ensure the success of your programs.
  • Coordinate meeting times with your committee (Co-CPC and Grad Intern) as needed to stay aligned on planning and execution.

Additional Commitments:

  • Attend the OMA Information Lunch, Cultural Programming Retreat, and recruitment interviews for future CPCs.
  • Serve as committee leader representatives for New Student mixers and programs the first two weeks of classes.
  • Participate in planning meetings and assist with organizing one of OMA’s annual Pre-Commencement Celebrations (e.g., Lavender Celebration, Black Student Celebration, APIDA Student Celebration, Latine Student Celebration, and MENA Student Celebration).

 

Qualifications:

  • Current Fordham Undergraduate student. Preferred: Rising Sophomore, Junior, or Senior.
  • Has at least one year experience as a CPC, club executive board member, or student leader at Fordham. Outside/community involvement and leadership experience also considered.
  • Strong organizational, communication, and leadership skills.
  • Passion for community-building and promoting cultural/identity inclusion.
  • Ability to collaborate effectively with peers, staff, and cultural organizations.
  • Commitment to fulfilling program responsibilities and attending required meetings and events.
