The Lee County Library System, a dynamic and forward-thinking organization, is seeking a passionate and community-minded Youth Services Librarian to join the team at the Cape Coral Public Library. Duties and Responsibilities

 

  • Provide exceptional customer service to patrons of all ages, assisting with library resources, technology, reference, and readers’ advisory.
  • Plan, promote, and present engaging programs for children and teens—both in the library and through community outreach.
  • Maintain and develop the children’s and teen’s collections through regular weeding, selection, and display.
  • Offer tailored readers’ advisory services to children and teens.
  • Present tours and programs to school and community groups visiting the library.
  • Provide technology instruction and support to staff and patrons.
  • Lead or participate in branch and system-wide committees and initiatives.
  • Explain and uphold library policies and procedures with professionalism and clarity.
  • Serve as Librarian-in-Charge during assigned shifts.
  • Participate in ongoing professional development and stay current on library trends and emerging technologies.
  • Actively engage with schools, parents, and community partners to build relationships and promote library programs and services.
  • Assists with teen-focused programming such as crafts, makerspace activities, gaming events, Teen Advisory Groups, and special events.
  • Supervise paraprofessional staff, as assigned.

 

Education, Experience, Licensing

 

Required:

  • A Master’s Degree in Library or Information Science from an accredited library school

OR

  • A Bachelor’s Degree with current enrollment in an accredited library science program and graduation within 6 months of hire.
  • Demonstrated customer service experience, preferably in a library or related setting.
  • Ability to work flexible hours including evenings and weekends.

 

Preferred:
 

  • Preferred: Master’s Degree in Library or Information Science from an accredited program
  • One year of library or related public service experience.
  • Valid Florida driver’s license.
  • Additional language proficiency.

Multilingual skills (preferred but not required).

Strong communication, collaboration, and customer service skills.

Experience in planning and conducting programs for children and teens.

Familiarity with current and emerging library technologies.

Ability to evaluate community needs and develop targeted, engaging services.

Experience with outreach and building partnerships with schools and community groups.

Ability to positively engage with a diverse community, including non-English-speaking patrons.

 

 

Supplemental Information

 

This is a full-time position (80 hours bi-weekly). Schedule includes evenings, Saturdays, and occasional Sundays.

Must be able to operate various equipment, including computers, photocopiers, cash registers, self-check machines, and assistive devices.

Candidates must be willing and able to transfer temporarily or permanently to another library location, based on organizational needs.

 

EMERGENCY RESPONSE/RECOVERY ACTIVITIES:

All County employees are required to work before, during, or after an emergency as needed. This may include temporarily being assigned to work and performing duties outside of the normal scope of their position, location and work schedule to fit the needs of the County and its citizens.
