About the Program
Thunder Fellows is a transformative youth development program based in Tulsa, Oklahoma, designed to unlock new opportunities in sports, entertainment, and technology for Black high school and college students. Powered by the Oklahoma City Thunder, the program equips students with essential skills in data science, leadership, and career readiness through hands-on learning, mentorship, and professional exposure. Rooted in the legacy of Black Wall Street, Thunder Fellows is committed to bridging the gap between potential and access, preparing the next generation of leaders to thrive in competitive industries.
Position Overview
Join the Thunder Fellows team this fall and help shape the future of Black youth through education, innovation, and community power. As an intern, you’ll play a hands-on role in executing meaningful programming, supporting students and families, and collaborating with business and community leaders. Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
- Support daily program operations including setup, student engagement, and basic logistics coordination
- Assist with the planning and execution of key Thunder Fellows events such as open houses, guest speaker sessions, capstone showcases, Fellows Appreciation Week, field trips, and professional development workshops
- Support alumni engagement efforts by maintaining the alumni database, drafting communications, and strengthening connections with mentors, employers, and industry professionals
- Manage program records and documentation, including student data, attendance logs, and impact reporting materials
- Create or update visual materials such as charts, dashboards, slide decks, and printed collateral
- Prepare and organize instructional materials, handouts, and program supplies
- Contribute to student recruitment and outreach by representing Thunder Fellows at school visits, community events, and virtual information sessions
- Draft and distribute communications to Thunder Fellows stakeholders, including students, parents, alumni, school contacts, and community partners via email, text, and other platforms
- Capture photos and video content during program sessions and events for documentation, marketing, and storytelling
- Provide administrative support including data entry, filing, printing, scheduling, inventory management, and internal calendaring
- Perform other duties as assigned
Qualifications and Requirements:
- Presently enrolled in an accredited college or university and approved by your school to receive course credit for the Fall internship
- Passion for community with an emphasis in student engagement and workforce development
- Proficient in Microsoft Office applications including Word, Excel, and Outlook; PowerPoint a plus
- Organization and time management skills to successfully prioritize and complete projects
- Self-starter who is also comfortable with team collaboration and supervision
- Excellent problem-solving skills, resourcefulness, and resilience in the face of change
- Strong interpersonal talents including speaking, writing, and listening skills and experience using various modes of communication including text and social media
- Possess significant knowledge of and/or connections to the Tulsa area
Additional Information:
This is a part-time, non-exempt fall internship reporting to the Operations Specialist, Thunder Fellows. Hours will not exceed 29 per week. Primary work location will be the Thunder Fellows headquarters located in Tulsa’s historic Greenwood District. A valid driver’s license and clean driving record required. Physical requirements of the job include driving, bending, walking or standing for extended periods. Employees are encouraged to be fully vaccinated for COVID-19.
