Lead Forester - Longyear - Prentice, Wisconsin or surrounding area (remote)

Longyear is excited to announce a new position available in the company —- Lead Forester, based in the beautiful northern Wisconsin areaIdeally, candidates will live in or within 150 miles of Prentice, Wisconsin.

As the Lead Forester for this region, you’ll work remotely from your home office overseeing all aspects of the area’s timber harvesting—from scheduling and contractor management to product delivery and compliance. You’ll work closely with our forestry team, log yard, and sales staff to ensure efficient, responsible forest operations in a region we’re proud to call home.

WHAT YOU’LL DO.

  • Manage timber harvest projects from start to finish.
  • Oversee contracts, contractors, road construction, and harvesting operations.
  • Monitor felling, bucking, merchandising, and scaling to ensure quality and efficiency.
  • Coordinate product delivery to mills based on market demand and delivery schedules.
  • Ensure compliance with Best Management Practices (BMPs), safety policies, and forest certification standards.
  • Support timber purchasing and set-up of future harvests when needed.
  • Collaborate with internal teams and landowners to keep operations moving smoothly.

WHAT WE’RE LOOKING FOR.

  • Degree in Forestry (A.A.S. or Bachelor’s).
  • 8 or more years of experience in forestry operations, timber harvesting, and contractor management.
  • Strong understanding of scaling, grading of sawlogs, silviculture, road building and environmental management.
  • You know the region’s timber market conditions well and are familiar with area loggers and foresters.
  • A proactive, team-oriented mindset with strong communication skills.
  • A problem-solver with excellent negotiation skills.
  • Familiarity with GPS/GIS systems, Microsoft Office, and forestry software.
  • A valid driver’s license and the physical stamina to work outdoors in all seasons is required.
