One Nature LLC is seeking an Entry-Level Design & Ecology Assistant to support our design studio, ecological restoration, and sustainable construction teams. This hourly, field-and-office-based position is ideal for individuals beginning their careers in landscape design, restoration ecology, or related fields who are eager to gain hands-on experience with real-world ecological projects.
Position Overview
The Design & Ecology Assistant will help with the planning and implementation of projects ranging from native landscape installations and habitat restoration to green infrastructure and ecological design-build. This role includes both field work and office-based tasks and offers a unique opportunity to work closely with artists, designers, and restoration professionals.
This is a seasonal position with the potential for year-round employment and professional growth.
Primary Responsibilities
Assist with site preparation and field layout for restoration and landscape design projects.
Support planting, invasive species removal, erosion control, and site monitoring.\
Collect field data such as soil conditions, plant health, and site features for use in design and planning.
Help create or edit maps, planting plans, and construction documents using hand-drawing or software (as skills allow).
Collaborate with design staff on research, plant sourcing, and material selections.
Assist with the preparation of presentations, reports, and permit documentation.
Maintain detailed project records and support data entry, photography, and file organization.
Participate in stewardship, nursery work, and client site visits as needed.
Qualifications
Bachelor's degree, Master’s or coursework in landscape architecture, environmental studies, ecology, horticulture, forestry, or a related field (or equivalent experience).
Interest in native plants, ecological design, and environmental restoration.
Willingness to perform fieldwork, including physical labor in all weather conditions.
Basic plant identification skills or desire to learn.
Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
Proficiency with Microsoft Office and Google Workspace; familiarity with design software is a plus.
Attention to detail, reliability, and a collaborative mindset.
Able to lift 40 pounds repeatedly and work full work days in outdoor conditions ranging from cold to hot to wet.
Preferred Qualifications
Experience with GIS, AutoCAD, Adobe Creative Suite, or 3D modeling software
Prior experience in landscaping, nursery work, or ecological fieldwork
Sketching, drafting, or visual communication skills
Schedule & Compensation
Hourly pay: $25–$27.50/hour depending on experience
Work hours: Generally Monday–Friday, 8:00 AM–4:30 PM (with flexibility)
Occasional weekend or evening hours for special projects or meetings
