
Police Officer I (2025)
The Arlington County Police Department seeks qualified entry-level and lateral-level police officer applicants to join our ranks.
All applicants are required to be in good physical condition, have a valid driver’s license, be 20 years and 6 months of age or older at the time of application submittal, be a U.S. citizen (no sponsorships), and be willing to sign a non-tobacco waiver (no tobacco products on or off duty throughout tenure of employment).
Police Officers receive the following benefits (summary):
- $72,014, new officer starting salary
- Signing bonus: $15,000-$25,000
- 25-year Pension & Supplemental retirement funds (401a & 457)
- 37.5-hour work week with 4 & 5 days off (15 days a month)

Police Officers have an opportunity to transfer to and/or be part of various units and teams. Assignments are based on time-in-service, completion of training, and experience.

- Crime Scene & Digital Forensics Unit
- Criminal Investigations Division
- Crisis Negotiations Unit
- LGBTQ+ & Hispanic Liaison Teams
- Plain Clothes Surveillance Team (TAC)
- Special Operations Section (Motors)
- SWAT & K9 Units
