Lab Technician - Contract to Hire
Job Description:
Global Advanced Metals is searching for a Lab Technician to join our Analytical/Quality Lab on a full time basis. This position will provide analytical, metallurgical and inspection services for production needs. In addition, this position will support research for process and development projects.
This is a contract position with the intent to hire. As a contractor, you are eligible for 40 hours of paid time off as well as 9 paid holidays and an hourly rate of $23.00/hour.
Once hired, your pay will increase to $24.66/hour and you will be eligible immediately for Medical, Dental and Vision benefits. After 90 days, you will be eligible for other benefits such as: 401k (with company matching 75% of the first 7.5%), paid time off, 9 paid holidays and 3 personal holidays.
Key Areas of Responsibility:
- Preparation of samples for analysis. Document experiment details in research notebook. Maintain laboratory notebooks in adherence to Global Advanced Metals (GAM) Research Notebook Policy. Sample, log and deliver samples to the laboratory.
- Perform analysis of samples using a wide range of analytical instrumentation, including but not limited to wet chemical, electrical and metallurgical testing methods, dry physical testing.
- Perform specific inspection. Daily inspection of equipment. Troubleshoot equipment as needed. Perform minor maintenance as needed. Maintain air permit compliance documents (scrubber and dust collector monitoring).
- Recording and reporting results using computer systems and a Laboratory Information Management System.
- Complete daily maintenance of laboratory instrumentation including but not limited to cleaning of critical components, replacement of consumables
- Calibration of instrumentation. Complete necessary forms, charts, etc. to document the process. Respond appropriately to process variations and monitor and react appropriately to internal test controls.
- Disposal of used, rejected materials as directed. Operate forklift and other motorized transportation equipment as necessary.
- Maintain quality, statistical process control records, reports and certificates
- Maintain safety in all assigned areas. Follow ACT (Assess, Control, Tell) methodology to prevent unsafe incidents. Participate in safety efforts (VPP, JHAs, PSSRs, Incident Investigations, self-assessment audits, etc.). Must wear appropriate PPE per PPE matrix and/or work instruction. May be required to wear respirator.
- Operate equipment such as high pressure reactors, high temperature furnaces, and pressure vessels having extremely acidic, toxic, flammable, and explosive chemicals, feed pressure vessels having acidic and toxic chemicals.
- Handle bulk toxic, corrosive, flammable, and explosive chemicals in accordance with established safety procedures. Follow Lab Chemical Hygiene procedure.
- Complete batch and log sheets, with required information and file the documents and records sheets appropriately. Communicate the status of the experiment to the shift following. Report to work station on time in order to receive experiment status from previous shift.
- Prepare samples for shipment, including appropriate paperwork.

Hours of Operation:
- Must be available for BOTH overnight and day shift
- Training will take place Monday-Friday Days; Shift Times may vary
- Must be available to work beyond these hours if needed (i.e. morning, evening, night if needed)
Education/Experience:
- Bachelors degree in a technical discipline preferred with 2 or more years related work experience
- Assoc. degree in a technical discipline with 3-5 years or more related work experience
- High School graduate with 4-6 years or more related work experience
- Basic understanding of chemistry and experience handling chemicals desirable
