Fall 2025 - Lens Engineering Intern or Co-Op: Polymer Processing
DESCRIPTION
- Develop new analytical test methods to support processing development trials.
- Utilize current analytical equipment and explore additional equipment to drive understanding of the processing trials
- Collaborate with technicians to write clear and concise work instructions for new test methods
- Provide experimental design support for projects related to the manufacture and performance evaluation of GRIN polymer optics. Create experimental plans, facilitate, and conduct processing/testing, etc.
- The candidate should be able to listen effectively and grasp new concepts quickly.
- Collaborate with a multi-disciplinary team to design and implement equipment modifications to improve the safety, reliability, capability, and/or capacity of production process equipment for GRIN lenses.
- Use data analysis tools and presentation tools to efficiently communicate experimental design, results, and conclusions to internal cross-functional technical teams.
- Manage project timelines and efficiently communicate progress, technical challenges, and successes.
- Participate in cross-functional FMEA and troubleshooting efforts related to the fabrication of GRIN polymer optics.
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS
- Must be located in the Cleveland, OH area
- US Citizenship
- Pursuing a bachelor’s degree in Chemistry, Physics, Engineering or equivalent
- Plastics processing equipment experience and/or familiarity with various analytical equipment (Cast film extrusion, refractometer, FTIR, SEM, microscopy, etc.)
- Design of Experiments and/or programming experience
- Experience with Data Reporting & Presentations
- 3D CAD experience
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
- Pursuing a master’s degree in Chemistry, Physics, Engineering, or equivalent
- SolidWorks experience
