
After-School Pottery Instructor (Elementary Level)
About the Role:
Digital Dreamers STEAM Academy is seeking a creative and dependable Pottery Instructor to lead engaging after-school pottery classes for elementary school students. If you have experience working with clay, enjoy teaching young learners, and are passionate about hands-on art education, this role could be a perfect fit!
Responsibilities:
- Lead weekly after-school pottery classes in a fun, safe, and inclusive environment.
- Teach foundational pottery techniques such as hand-building (pinch pots, coil, slab), shaping, and basic sculpting.
- Guide students through the process of creating individual and group clay projects.
- Promote creativity, patience, and expression through clay art.
- Set up and clean up materials and workspace before and after each class.
- Communicate clearly and consistently with program staff and school site contacts.
Requirements:
- Prior experience teaching pottery or ceramics to children (especially grades TK–3).
- Strong understanding of basic pottery techniques and clay safety.
- Ability to manage a classroom and keep students engaged in hands-on activities.
- Passion for art education and making learning fun.
- Able to commit to a consistent weekly schedule throughout the Fall term.
- Must be able to pass a background check and provide references.
Schedule & Commitment:
- Classes will be held once a week in the afternoon (after school) for 1–2 hours.
- The program will run during the Fall 2025 session at Menlo Park Area.
Bonus (Not Required):
- Experience with kiln usage and glazes (note: most sessions may use air-dry clay).
- Ability to integrate storytelling or cultural themes into projects.
- Familiarity with arts integration and STEAM education principles.
