About the Division: 

The Criminal Records Division (CRD) is comprised of four sections: Collision Records, ACCESS, Identification and Background Check Section, and Criminal History Records Section. The Criminal Records Division manages the collection and dissemination of criminal justice information and provides complete, accurate, and accessible criminal history in the interest of public safety. This position supports the organization’s mission by receiving electronic disposition entries into the Washington State Identification System (WASIS) criminal history database from court systems. The position uses available resources to research open dispositions to ensure complete and accurate criminal history record information (CHRI) for dissemination upon request to law enforcement, criminal justice agencies, public and private sector employers, and the general public. 

 

About the Position:

As a Fingerprint Technician 2 (In-Training), you will perform advanced technical fingerprint identification and maintain criminal records that consist of classifying and comparing fingerprints of unknown persons and criminal suspects using appropriate methods. The incumbent will process, maintain, and support criminal history record information provided to the Criminal Records Division by law enforcement agencies and courts throughout the State of Washington. This position must ensure accurate entry and update of information.


Fingerprint Technician 1: $4119 - $5531
Fingerprint Technician 2: $4,542 - $6,107

 

Duties

Our new teammate will be able to:

  • Perform quality control of submitted fingerprint and palm prints.
  • Utilize the Automated Biometric Identification System (ABIS) fingerprint identification of electronically and manually submitted fingerprint transactions.
  • Compare ABIS database fingerprint impressions with ink and digital fingerprint impressions to determine positive or negative identity of unknown subjects.
  • Work with internal (WSP) departments and external law enforcement agencies to provide requested fingerprint cards and documents for identification purposes.
  • Perform Data Input (entry) by scanning fingerprint cards, typing descriptive data information, and entering into Automated Biometric Identification System (ABIS) for subsequent background check search.
  • Share equipment/workspaces.
  • Fingerprint the general public.

 

Qualifications

Required Qualifications: 

  • High school graduation or GED equivalency.
  • One year experience in a recognized law enforcement agency. OR
    • One year experience in fingerprint pattern determination/ridge encoding using an AFIS/ABIS. OR
    • One year of college course work in law enforcement.
  • Ability to work rotating shifts every six months which may include weekends (ex. 8:00 am to 4:30 pm, 5:00 pm to 1:30 am, or 8:30 pm to 5:00 am).
  • Must satisfactorily complete a background investigation including a polygraph examination due to the confidential nature of the work.
