Human Resource Generalist

Job Description:

The Human Resource Generalist assists the HR Coordinator in planning, directing, and coordinating human resource management activities. The ultimate goal is to maximize the strategic use of human resources and maintain functions such as employee compensation, recruitment, training, employee relations, benefits administration, and regulatory compliance.

This position will work with departmental managers to perform staff competency assessments, training development and performance appraisals. The Human Resource Generalist facilitates cross-functional/cross-departmental communication in order to maintain a respectful and rewarding company culture. This position is involved in the process of interviewing, hiring, training, and retaining permanent and temporary staff.

This position will be responsible for traveling to all four of our locations regularly (Merrimack, Milford, Milton, and Dover, NH). This position should establish relationships with staff and supervisors at all locations. Mileage reimbursement will be provided as needed.

Competencies/Qualifications:

· Knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite preferred

· Detail-oriented and adept at multi-tasking

· Ability to solve problems and think clearly in a fast-paced environment with the ability to keep calm under pressure

· Must possess excellent interpersonal and communication skills

· Must be able to work in a multi-layered, multi-departmental and multi-functional role within and outside the organization.

Responsibilities (in conjunction with the HR Coordinator):

· Administer compensation, benefits and performance management systems, and safety programs.

· Identify staff vacancies and recruit, interview, and select applicants.

· Provide current and prospective employees with information about policies, job duties, working conditions, wages, and opportunities for promotion and employee benefits.

· Manage employee relations including dealing with understaffing, employee disputes, terminating employees and administering disciplinary procedures.

· Advise managers on organizational policy matters such as equal employment opportunity, sexual harassment, and preferred management behaviors.

· Work with the Accounting department to monitor weekly pay increases, time clock inquiries, retro pay etc.

· Create and administer training materials to help associates master the skills required to perform their job responsibilities within expectations.

· Serve as a link between management and employees by handling questions, interpreting company policies and helping to resolve work-related problems.

· Design and implement employee education, including basic skills mastery as well as supervisory skills development.

· Maintain records and compile statistical reports concerning personnel related data such as hires, transfers, performance appraisals, and absenteeism rates.

· Prepare staffing forecast reports for departmental employment needs.

· Become an active member of the Safety Committee.

· Responsible for implementation and maintenance of all Human Resource information systems (HRIS) and documentation of state and federal required employee information and training (including EEOC, OSHA, etc.).

· Oversee the mandatory pre-employment and post-accident drug screening program.

· Work with insurance agencies and oversee all aspects of the Medical and Worker Compensation insurance program, implementation and documentation.

· Investigate and report on industrial accidents for insurance carriers and management.

· Work with departmental managers to produce staff competency assessments and performance appraisals

· Attend continuing education programs to expand knowledge and skills relating to industry trends, state and federal regulations, employee management or other related topics as appropriate to this position.

· Work requires willingness to work a flexible schedule and travel as necessary.

· Other duties as assigned

Education/Licensing and/or Certifications:

· Bachelor’s Degree preferred

· Minimum of 2 years Human Resource experience

· Human Resources Certification or equivalent preferred

Salary and Rank:

· Type of Employment: Full time.

· Reports to the HR Coordinator of Index Packaging

· Salaried position – from $50,000/year, dependent on experience.
