Art-to-GO Outreach Instructor

POSITION INFORMATION:

Art-to-Go is the primary school outreach program for the Old Jail Art Center.

Instructors for the OJAC Education Department make monthly visits to various Region 14 campuses, providing thematic lessons to K-12 audiences that address current social and cultural issues as referenced in the museum collection.

At each monthly program, Art-to-Go instructors lead observation and discussion of educational videos, books, and collection artworks, followed by a studio activity.

Contracted ATG Instructors travel to participating schools for 8 months of the school year, and to the OJAC in May to lead a concluding tour and studio activity.

The Art-to-Go instructor is a contracted employee of the museum, working through the Education Department. Instructors gain:

  • Valuable practice in K-12 classroom instruction and management
  • Networking opportunities with area K-12 campuses and teachers
  • Resume building in the fields of classroom education, museum education, and art education
  • Personal arts and culture enrichment

RESPONSIBILITIES:

Attend a monthly training and review session at the OJAC

Conduct classroom art instruction, including discussion (using Visual Thinking Strategies) and art activities for K-12 audiences

Manage classroom dynamics

Conduct tours and artmaking activities on-site at the museum during the final month of the program

Promote education programs, policies, and the mission of the OJAC

REQUIREMENTS:

Candidate must possess or be pursuing a Bachelor's Degree in Education or Visual Arts.

Candidate must have reliable transportation.

Candidate must live within 60 miles of the Old Jail Art Center.

Some form of teaching experience required. (Camp/workshop, classroom, etc.)

Fluency in Spanish is preferred, but not required

HOURS

Up to 35 hours of instruction a week

Instructors may choose to work anywhere from 1-5 days per week, but must be available from 8am - 4pm on the day(s) of their choice.

COMPENSATION

Set Pay Scale for Full and Half-Day of Instruction:

$120 full school day

$60 half school day

+ Full travel reimbursement at current state rate

CONTRACT START DATE

Instruction begins in September 2025. The position is offered as a contract role for the 2025–2026 school year. Renewal or extension beyond this term may be considered based on performance and mutual interest.
