Family Formation Assistant
Position Summary
The Family Formation Assistant works with the Director of Youth and Family Formation and the Director of Children’s and Family Formation to support programs and events for children, youth and families of St. Bartholomew’s Episcopal Church.
The Family Formation Assistant will work with both teams to coordinate monthly and annual events and will assist with communication strategies.
This role is designed for someone who has a passion for working with children, youth, and their families in an Episcopal context and desires to be a positive pastoral role model.
Typical Work Week
Sundays: 8:00am-12:30pm and afternoon events as scheduled by the Director of Youth and Family Formation and Director of Children’s and Family Formation to correspond with Youth and Children’s Events
Mondays-Thursdays: flexible hours to be determined with the Director of Youth and Family Formation and Director of Children’s and Family Formation at the start of employment
Occasional Sunday evenings and Saturday work depending on youth event schedule
Duties and Responsibilities
Working with Youth and Children
- Serves as a Sunday Morning Youth Leader during Formation Hour. Will help with the set up and tear down of this program as needed
- Works with Director of Youth and Family Formation to set up times for small groups and individual contact work with youth
Administrative Work
- Works on the church’s database (Breeze) to update information, schedule events, and send out communications
- Performs clerical tasks such as printing, copying, creating booklets, and making name tags
Event Planning and Execution
- Prepares materials required for Youth events, communicates with parents about event requirements, organizes permission forms
- Works alongside both Directors and a team of volunteers to execute monthly and annual events
- Attends required events on behalf of the Children’s Formation and Youth Formation teams as an adult leader and maintains safety standards
- Performs clean up duties and alerts the Directors of any follow up needed after the event
Communication
- Works on monthly newsletters, text communications and website management
- Other duties as assigned
Required qualifications:
- Must be able to work on Sunday mornings
- Must be able to work at all assigned Youth and Children’s events
- A calendar of the upcoming year’s events will be shared in the interview process
- Must be willing to learn new computer programs
- We will train on using Breeze (church database), Google Office, and Canva
- Must complete and pass a background check and complete Safe Church, Safe Communities Training (the Episcopal Church’s Safe Church requirement)
- Both are provided by the Church at the start of employment
- Must be willing to be CPR certified
- This will be covered by the church at the start of employment
- Must maintain confidentiality with all parishioners under the guidelines set out by the Safe Church, Safe Communities and Children and Youth Formation Leader Handbook
Preferred qualifications:
- Has experience working with children, youth and families
- Is highly relational, able to communicate well with a variety of personalities
- Has a positive attitude when problem-solving
- Has excellent written and verbal communication skills, especially when working with parents
- Has a sincere desire to grow in Christian faith and to encourage others to grow as well
- Has a familiarity with Catechesis of the Good Shepherd
Compensation
This position offers $20 per hour for 19 hours per week.
