Genetic Counselor Assistant
Genetic counselor Assistants work with a variety of tasks including communicating with referring providers and families, facilitating genetic testing, assisting with billing investigations/prior authorization, scheduling, requesting medical records, database entry, faxing/scanning/mailing, other duties as assigned.
Qualifications:
- IU Indianapolis student
- Genetics major encouraged to apply
- Attention to detail is needed
- Customer service experience in past positions
- Medical terminology or previous clinical exposure is a plus but not required
- Communication skills in both speaking and written forms is critical to position success
- Ability to work autonomously on assigned tasks will be needed
In accordance with the IUI Profiles of Learning for Undergraduate Success, experience in this position will help students become acquainted with the following profiles:
- Communicator--Students will learn how to best communicate with genetic counselors, patients, referring providers, laboratories, payors, etc.
- Problem Solver--Student will learn how to solve problems related to genetics referrals, counseling, testing, etc that will prepare them for a career as a genetic counselor.
