Seasonal Wildlife Associate
Join the Forest Preserve District of DuPage County and play a vital role in helping visitors connect with nature while supporting native wildlife care efforts. As a Seasonal Wildlife Associate, you'll assist with public engagement and the day-to-day operations of the DuPage Wildlife Conservation Center-providing a unique blend of customer service, wildlife triage support, and clerical responsibilities.
What You'll Do
- Welcome and assist visitors in person, over the phone, and via email.
- Answer the Wildlife Hotline and provide guidance on injured or orphaned animals, nuisance wildlife, and natural history questions.
- Support daily clinic operations, including processing wildlife admissions and performing safe animal handling during intake.
- Perform general office tasks like data entry, mailings, filing, and recordkeeping.
- Help maintain accurate medical records and ensure timely updates to animal charts.
- Promote a clean, safe, and organized work environment by following all safety protocols.
What You'll Need
- Must be 18 years of age or older at the time of hire.
- Experience with animal handling preferred.
- Natural history knowledge preferred.
- Working knowledge of Microsoft Office.
- Knowledge of principles and processes for providing customer and personal services.
- Social and situational perceptiveness.
- Time management skills.
- Ability to keep neat and accurate records.
- Strong communication skills, both verbal and written.
- Coordination when dealing with and working with others.
- Ability to deal effectively with the public.
Schedule & Pay
- $15.00 per hour
- 8:30 AM - 5:00 PM shift
- Work either Sunday, Monday, Tuesday, and Thursday or Tuesday, Thursday, Friday, and Saturday (includes one weekend day)
- Position runs through September 2025
Work Setting
- This role is based at the DuPage Wildlife Conservation Center, in Glen Ellyn, IL..
- Work includes both indoor administrative duties and direct contact with wildlife and the public.
