Natural Resource Technician - Marine Corps Base, Hawaii (Kaneohe Bay)

POSITION
Up to 2 temporary hourly Natural Resource Technician positions are available with the Center for Environmental Management of Military Lands (CEMML). This position is located at Marine Corps Base, Hawaii (Kaneohe Bay) on Oahu. Temporary positions cannot exceed 9-months. Employment: July- September 2025, possibly longer. Part-time possible.

ORGANIZATION
The Center for Environmental Management of Military Lands is a research, education and service unit within the Warner College of Natural Resources at Colorado State University (CSU). CEMML applies the latest and most appropriate science to promote the sustainable management of natural and cultural resources on Department of Defense (DOD) and other public lands. We provide technical support, conduct applied research, and offer career development and learning opportunities to support resource stewardship. http://www.cemml.colostate.edu/.

LOCATION
Marine Corps Base (MCB) Hawaii is located at Kaneohe Bay on the Mokapu Peninsula on the Northeastern coast of Oahu. There may be occasional travel to other Oahu MCB Hawaii managed areas.

RESPONSIBILITIES
The NR Technician provides field support to the Natural Resources Program. Primary activities are physically strenuous and may include invasive plant and other vegetation control using mechanical and chemical methods, installing fencing, performing surveys, and documenting recreational use. The technician must follow established safety and security standard operating procedures. Approximately 95% of time is outdoors in all weather conditions and 5% is indoors.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
**The successful candidate must demonstrate U.S. employment eligibility; CEMML will not provide visa sponsorship for this position. A pre-employment Criminal Background Check is also required. All candidates must meet the following minimum qualifications:
• Valid U.S. state driver’s license.
• High School Diploma or General Education Development (GED).
• Experience in natural resource management, landscaping or other manual labor.
• Must have the ability to walk extensively on rugged terrain and conduct repetitive actions; field work in hot and wet conditions; lifting and carrying up to 40 lbs.

DESIRABLE QUALIFICATIONS
• AA/BA/BS in wildlife management, natural resources, agronomy, biology or related field.
• Experience operating hand and power tools used in vegetation control such as line trimmers, backpack sprayers, chainsaws, etc.
• Knowledge of native Hawaiian flora, fauna and ecosystems.
• Good oral and written communication skills.
• State of Hawaii Commercial Pesticide Applicator certification.
• Experience driving 4-wheel drive vehicles on unimproved roads.
• Experience working on a military installation.

SALARY/HOURS
Hourly pay rate is $24-$30/hour depending on experience. 40 hours per week (8-hour days, Monday-Friday), but part-time possible
