Engineering Technician

We are seeking skilled applicants who can provide technical and engineering assistance to the Southeast 11 Soil and Water Conservation Districts (SWCDs) in Minnesota and the private landowners who reside within.  Technical assistance will be delivered in the form of implementing soil and water best management practices (BMPs) including: Ecological Sciences and Soil Health Practices, Erosion Control Practices, Flood Reduction Practices, Wetland Restorations, Streambank Stabilization, Feedlot Runoff Control Practices, Drainage Water Management and other projects that the SE SWCDs require assistance on. Elevated knowledge and/or Job Approval Authority in both Engineering and Ecological Sciences are highly desired for this position

Position Duties and Responsibilities

  • Communicate effectively with landowners and partner agencies on project details and partner programs.
  • Investigate project sites, evaluate project feasibility and assist with project prioritization with TSA7 Lead Engineer 
  • Conduct topographic surveys, soils investigations or other data collection necessary for project feasibility.
  • Utilize sound ecological and engineering principles, design standards and methods to prepare final project designs and associated construction plans, specifications and cost estimates. 
  • Develop, organize and deliver training sessions and on-the-job training on conservation engineering BMP’s, survey equipment usage and engineering software programs to SWCD staff and partners.
  • Provide technical assistance to landowners, SWCD technicians for construction management and observation.
  • Assist with training needs throughout TSA7 in coordination with Area Technical Training and Certification Team

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Minimum of Bachelor’s degree (B.A./B.S.) in conservation, engineering, agriculture or related field.
  • Knowledge of technical engineering methods, techniques, principles, and procedures.
  • Ability to operate surveying equipment and perform technical engineering procedures.
