Design Engineer Intern

Job Summary

We are seeking a motivated and detail-oriented Design Engineer Intern to join our team in the manufacturing sector. This internship offers a unique opportunity to gain hands-on experience in designing and improving manufacturing processes and products. You will work closely with our experienced design engineers and contribute to various stages of product development, from conceptualization to production.

 

Key Responsibilities

  • Product Design and Development: Assist in the design and development of new products and modifications to existing products. Use CAD software to create and modify 3D models and technical drawings.
  • Prototype Development: Support the development and testing of prototypes, working with cross-functional teams to ensure design feasibility and manufacturability.
  • Process Improvement: Participate in the evaluation and improvement of manufacturing processes. Identify opportunities for cost reduction, efficiency improvements, and quality enhancements.
  • Material Selection: Assist in selecting appropriate materials and components based on design requirements, cost, and manufacturing capabilities.
  • Technical Documentation: Prepare and maintain technical documentation, including engineering drawings, specifications, and reports.
  • Quality Assurance: Support quality assurance activities, including design validation, testing, and troubleshooting of design issues.
  • Collaboration: Work closely with other departments, such as production, quality control, and procurement, to ensure designs meet manufacturing and customer requirements.
  • Compliance: Ensure designs comply with industry standards, regulatory requirements, and company policies.
  • Project Support: Assist in project planning, scheduling, and tracking of design activities and progress.

 

Qualifications

  • Education: Currently enrolled in a Bachelor's or Master's degree program in Mechanical Engineering, Manufacturing Engineering, Industrial Design, or a related field.
  • Technical Skills:
    • Proficiency in CAD software (e.g., SolidWorks, AutoCAD, or equivalent).
    • Basic knowledge of manufacturing processes (e.g., machining, welding, injection molding).
    • Familiarity with materials science and engineering principles.
  • Analytical Skills: Strong problem-solving skills with the ability to analyze complex design challenges and propose effective solutions.
  • Communication Skills: Excellent verbal and written communication skills. Ability to present ideas clearly and collaborate with cross-functional teams.
  • Attention to Detail: High level of attention to detail and accuracy in technical work and documentation.
  • Team Player: Ability to work effectively as part of a team and independently as required.
  • Adaptability: Willingness to learn and adapt to new technologies and methodologies in a dynamic work environment.
  • Security Access: Must be capable of holding U.S. Security Clearance

 

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience with finite element analysis (FEA) or computational fluid dynamics (CFD) tools.
  • Familiarity with industry standards and regulations related to manufacturing and design (e.g., ISO, ASME).
  • Previous internship or project experience in a manufacturing or engineering environment.
